FinRus update ready on Thursday
« on: January 29, 2003, 04:35:16 PM »
Hello!

Here is information and plane setup from a Finland vs Russia update coming on Thursday 30th of January to HTC download page and to CT on Friday 31st of January:

"FINLAND - RUSSIA
JATKOSOTA 1941-1944
(CONTINUATION WAR 1941-1944)

This is a historical Eastern Front map between Finland and Russia. The current time is June 1944 and the Russian's GREAT OFFENSIVE against Finland has just begun on the Karelian Isthmus near Leningrad and Viipuri towns.

FIELDS SETUP:
* Bishops (Russian) fields are fields 1 - 38 and fleets 77 and 78.
* Germany (Rooks) fields are 39-53 in the Lapland and 75-76 in the Estonia. They have fleet 79, too.
* Finnish (Rooks) fields are 54-74 and they have fleet 80.
* Field 72 is both Lappeenranta (Finns) and Immola (Germans), because they were so near each other. From there you can fly all the Finnish and Germany planes.
* Fields 81-83 are Knights (Sweden) and there are no planes available.

* All the Ports have airfields and all the setup planes are available from there, too.
* All the frontline fields are only for the fighters. The rear fields are for the bombers and the fighters, too.

ROOKS/FINLAND AIRPLANES SETUP:
* Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-2 ("Mersu")
* Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 ("Tykkimersu")
* Hurricane Mk I
* FM2 Wildcat (actually Brewster Model 239 "Bylly Waltteri")
* Junkers Ju88A-4 ("Junnu")
* Douglas C-47A (actually Douglas DC-2 "Hanssin Jukka")

ROOKS/GERMANY AIRPLANES SETUP:
* Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-4 ("Emil")
* Messerschmitt Bf 109 F-4 ("Friedrich")
* Messerschmitt Bf 110 C-4b
* Messerschmitt Bf 110 G-2
* Focke Wulf Fw 190A-5
* Focke Wulf Fw F-8
* Junkers Ju87D-3 ("Stuka")
* Junkers Ju88A-4
* Douglas C-47A (actually Junkers Ju-52 "Tante-Ju")

BISHOPS/RUSSIA AIRPLANES SETUP:
* Lavochin La-5FN ("Lavochka")
* Yak-9T ("Tankoviy")
* Hurricane  Mk II C (actually Mk II B)
* Curtiss P-40B ("Tomahawk")
* Curtiss P-40E ("Warhawk")
* Ilyushin Il-2 Type 3
* A-20G Havoc
* Boston III
* Douglas C-47A (actually Li-2 under licence)

SPECS:
* Fuel Burn is set at 1.5
* Down time is set at 30 min for field objects and guns
* All other variables per CT norms

EXTRAORDINARY IN THIS MAP:
* All the airfields are historical. The little "Backwoods Airfields" don't have normally runaways and hangers. They have plane dugouts, but they  react like hangers and need the same amount of bombs to destroy (1250 kg or 2500 lb). The Rearm pad is other side of the field opposite of the tower.

* Be worth to shoot trucks and little fuel barrels in thr enemy fields, too! For ex. in trucks are fuel, ammo, troops or even Vodka :-)

* When you are landing to the "Backwoods Airfield" you can stop everywhere on the open sand-grass area in the centre of the field and middle of the trees. Be cautious with the trees when landing and taking off! :-)

* Airfields are marked with the little black crosses to the Clipboard map. Cities and Factories are marked with the little black squares. Ground Vehicle entries are marked with the little gray points. You don't need to always keep the red and green guidange lights on!

* There are 14 Tank Battle (TB) Villages near the frontline. They are marked with the red striped circles on the map. The owner of the TB Village is always the nearest airfield. You can stop your tank safe in the middle of the village. In the TB Villages are three 20-30 mm acks and one of them is mannable.

* You can see here and there bridges. They are only bombable targets and owned by the nearest airfields. You can't drive with GV's over the bridges.

SOME HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
* In Northern Finland (called Lapland), Norway and Estonia there were Germans, because Finland and Germany were allied in 1941 - 1944.

* Finnish politics was never nazi politics like in Germany during those days. Finland fought against Russia and that was the only reason to ally with Germany.

* The blue svastika sign on Finnish planes is an old symbol from Swedish Count VonRosen, who presented the first aeroplane to Finnish Air Forces (FAF) in 1918. As you can see, that was many years earlier than nazis affected in Germany. Nowadays FAF signs are blue/white circles.

* In Immola airfield (Lappeenranta A72 here) was detachment Kuhlmey's FW190 Jabos and Stukas in summer 1944 when Soviet had the Great Offensive against Finland. They helped Finland very much.

* Finland stopped the Soviet's Great Offensive (started 9. of June 1944) in June and August 1944 on every fronts. The war ended in 4th of September 1944. Both FAF's fighter pilots and bomber crews made honourable work during those hard day's like all the Finnish 500 000 Soldiers on the front lines. All the Finnish Virtual Pilots like to thank Them all for their heroic deeds during whole Continuation War."

Mr. Fork can do couple of his own settings to CT, but I think it is very near to this one! Here you can see the great looking Clipboard map made by Dux. All the airfields are marked with names:

Dux is working next with the Finland vs Russia Winter version tiles. We are making winter skins to all the planes and GV's, too. It is ready later on the Spring. Here is nice demo shot from the Norway coast:

Too bad we don't have a T-34 to cruise across the country side in.

kanttori,

I highly reccomend making your map impossible to reset.

Give all 3 countries 1 or 2 bases that are up on a tall 45 K (or as high at the map maker will let you) spire.  Put about 100 acks at each of these bases and give each one a huge town.  Put em all down in 1 corner, or several corners.  Then they can't be reset.

Thanks for listening.

You can set the 3rd country far off the map where it will be unseen and a real pain to get to.

Its just that no one in the begining expect these types of problems.

I find hard to believe that folks dont know whats going to happen when they take the last base of the third country. But what do I know.

Disable field capture altogether maybe.

Grat lookin map Kantorri :)

I have heard of this problem. Knights/Sweden have now 3 airfields and 2 of them are in Stocholm (down left corner) near HQ and City, and there is a heavy ack.

If we see that somebody is still capturing a field from Sweden, I go and kill him immediate!;)

I hope that anybody will reset the CT maps purposely...:confused:
