A question for "Score potatos"

Actually I am the first to dive in to get the ack, pork the dar and kill the VH.  Usually ack first.  Gaming the game is one thing.  But playing for fun is what I find more compelling.  It really isn't that hard to stay in the top 15.  Get your goon captures out of the way early and you can sit tight the whole tour with 6-9 captures total.

I know JDW and myself just pissed off a ton of rooks in the pizza map bout an hour ago.  The two of us stopped the rooks for about 15 minutes from upping from one base so they could go defend/attack our base.  Call it gaming or whatever but what I think we did was relieve some of the pressure from the knits at their base.  As we saw 15% of the total rooks online come after us.

Back to ranks the only thing that I care about is our squad staying in the number 1 spot.  We all work together in AH and fly together which makes the game all that more fun.

wetrat - the reason I maintain that k/t is irrelevant (for ME) is that I prefer to try to fly "realistically", by which I mean with a purpose in mind - field capture, field defence etc. I have said once before that the P47 ace F. Gabreski got about 35 kills in two wars spanning about ten years - in AH k/t terms he was crap! That is why the k/t is so gamey, and irrelevant - to me at least.

Just two days ago, I worked with two other guys to capture three enemy bases which could have been used against us and caused us to fight a two front war. With those bases captured, we had a war on one front only. During that session, the only kills I got were bombing GVs that had spawned to defend vehicle bases.

I think that the people who give credence to k/t (and there are many) are the same people who hate the pizza map (and there are many). I sort of like the pizza because you don't necessarily run into LA7 interceptors looking for quick kills. If you would stop and think about it for a moment, an aircraft carrying bombs is not going to be seeking a high k/t. Comprehensive though the AH stats may be, they do not show the contribution a pilot has made to field capture, or to field defence. And this is one reason I'm looking forward to seeing what the Mission Arena has to offer. The other thing that k/t does not take into account is side switching to whichever side is winning - not realistic, and not an option in the real war.

As for k/d, yes - much more relevant. I could show you score sheets in which I have a k/d better than 5/1. But that depended very much on what I was doing, and with whom. When I first started in AH, I struggled to exceed 3/2! -because I didn't know anyone, and was flying alone for much of the time. No voice comms back then, so fewer 6 calls etc.

But it seems some guys sacrifice k/d for k/t - would that be why we see so much suiciding in this game? Fly-till-U-die vulch crap because a new plane is only a mouse click away...

My advice to any score potatos is not to get to wound up about any particular stat if you're planning to fly the Mission Arena - and I can see why some won't want to - lol. My prediction is that the whole pattern of scoring will be completely different.

beetle.. people defending feilds probly don't carry bombs either.   High K/T is like any other stat.. It is fun to track and it gives another oiece to the overall puzzle... I believe that you are correct tho....

Those who like to fight hate the pizza map.   I also see more La7's in the pizza map than any.  certainly no less.  You need a fast plane in the pizza because of the low population density and long distances to a fight... you need to go all the way to the other persons base to get him or... cefend against a "missun dudz" building battler horde.

voss is so noisy so that blind people can hate him too.

aybe I'm missing something here but how is K/D more realistic? Seems to me that anything lower than X/1 is gamey. Guys that go 100/3...good for them but by your real world rubric they're still dead.

You can sacrafice K/D to get a high K/T.... still takes some talent tho... You can sacrafice K/T to get a high K/D... takes very little talent but a lot of patience...

It is a little harder to get high K/T and K/D together.   They might indicate something taken together.   Hit percentage is pretty meaningless tho except on a personal level.

Beet1e you really have a fixation on the lag..

I pretty much stink and have killed more lags than anything else..

They have very little luck killin me.

Course I make a point of killing lags..

When I see the icon, I...I can't help it...I just get fixated..

Ranking does not require skill -

I use a MOUSE and a KEYBOARD for every function in this game -
I am not a good 1v1 fighter (probably because of this) but I dont really care about 1v1 -

I do however use SA whenever possible over ACM and that keeps me alive alot longer.

Sure I might be better with a HOTAS Cougar, rudder pedals, dual throttles and such - but if I can rank as high as I do, I aint spendin the money to find out :)

And as far as that is concerned - if someone is gonna offer me money to play only a certain way that I know it's attainable - then sure why not - I'll try anything once.

I am not playing any different this tour than any other tour other than I am picking my sorties more carefully, and come hell or high water, I am finishing them out.

Yeap, I enjoyed my scores tour. Sometime it was borring, sometime frustrating, but considering that it made me care to survive in MA, which did not happen for like 1 year before it, I enjoyed it.

BTW, anyone have got their check? I have not got mine yet.

This thread has been an interesting read for me.  I usually end tours with scores between 400 and 100.  I think I may have broken the top 100 once, but that was a fluke.  I understand now what kind of mentality it takes to have a top 50 score, and I believe I will never possess it!

My limitation is the Squad I fly with.  We work together to accomplish tasks and capture territory.  We will work together as a group to help defend an important airbase, clear enemy fields of ack, run bomber missions to break up a determined base defense, or even sneak in some GV's to get the job done.  Search and destroy enemy CV's is a squad favorite, but no matter what we do, the satisfaction of the squad's success far outweighs the satisfaction of living or dying during the effort.  We have many people in the squad that will auger in order to change vehicle/plane to better suit the situation, especially if timing is critical.  It is the diversity of engagements and the team cooperation that really matters in my book.  Sure, we watch scores, but they are more of a byproduct than a main focus.

Some people are different, but I have a hard time seeing the enjoyment in personal glory since there is no one to share the accomplishment with.  Who cares if your #1 if you had to abandon everyone in the effort?  Still, live and let live.  I am not complaining, to each his/her own.  Keep doing what you’re doing as long as you’re happy.  Just keep an open mind to others activities; maybe they are at least as happy as you are. :)
