Frame rates again!
« on: January 31, 2003, 03:50:50 PM »
Ok Ive tried everything to try and boost my framerates. I know you all say to break down and buy a new card..... Well...... not yet!  Does anyone know how to boost the video memory usage in the game????? This probably would help. Its says i have 9000?k and only use about 2000k with about 7000k free. Now this stays this way even with frame rates drop to 2fps.  So to end this message. Does anyone know how to up the mem usage in the game?

The video memory utilization is not under our control.  DirectX is handling that in conjunction with the video card driver.

There is no way for you to alter it.

That saod, I can see where your frame rates would be rather poor.  You seem to only have 8MB of video ram, which is potentially going to cause a lot of texture swapping, depending on what video resolution you are running.

What video resolution are you running?

Well Skuzzy,

I really think my card is gone, but I have a Riva Nividia 32mb.  I was playing not but 3 months ago and everything was fine. You said Directx might be the problem but I have reinstalled Directx 2 times. 8.1 and 9.0 yeah I know im screwed with 9.0 cant uninstall. I dont know if the card is gone or my system has some kind of bug. Well if I cant figure it out. Have know fear I'll still be here. Just have to buy soemthing new. If you know anything that might help I will try anything.

     Thanks Skuzzy

What is the total video mem reported in AH?

I may have misunderstood.

Also, check in DXDIAG to see what it is showing as the approximate amount of video memory.

You can reinstall DX8.1 over 9.0 without any problems.

I've had my biggest increase in Framerates in AH when i upgrade the proccessor. from 1.3g to 1800xp.

I've also noticed when I overclock the FSB on processor by 10% it brought up my FPS more than overclocking the video card.

So I think I wasted $200 on new card [Geforce 4 ti 4200 64mb ddr ]  when the Geforce 2 Pro 64mb ddr card had about the same FPS until I think 1.11 patch.

Correct me if I'm wrong Skuzzy. This game is more processor oriented .

Game is more CPU dependent at the moment...

Though as stated in AH2 the video card will play a larger role than it does now

If all you play is AH, yeah mebbe a gf4 ti is overkill for ah1 at least.

Doyle.....

You mentioned that a few months ago everything was fine.

Here is a question. Did you reformat your computer since this time?

I ran into a situation a a year or so ago when I formatted my system and reloaded everything (almost everything). After the system was back up and running, I noticed that my Video memory was low (8000-9000) when it used to read 12,000.

This is what it turned out to be. After I installed Win98 and everything was running, I forgot to install my motherboard drivers (VIA CHIPSET). Win98 will run without these drivers installed but just not at full potential.

Hopefully this is your fix too.

S!
