Vehicle gunsite magnification

Does anyone know how the magnification allowed in AH compares to the real life magnification available to gunners?

There is a few little tricks you can use to make the view from the gun a bit easier to target long shots if this is why you are posting?

when in gunner position you can still use the move view controls. To do this press F8 and release the view to manual, then you can use page up and down and the arrow keys to adjust your view.

This allows you to fire (and see) at much more distant targets.Something which is impossible to do with the normal view as the black rounded border blocks your view of the shell landing.

This method also allows you to zoom your view and see much better.

I hope this helps the newbies as it was something i didnt find out until recently and im sure those times i died from long range the enemy gunner was using this system.

hope i got the right idea about your request.

errm think hazed missed....

I think the question is did the gunners in reality have the ability to zoom like we do in AH, and if so... to similar zoom levels...

the answer... nope...

much higher magnification in AH, and well... most gunners had no magnification

Hazed, you're confusing me.

This doesnt seem to work for me. The only thing I move around
with ARROW, PageUp/Down is the sight, not the view itself. What
I mean is that the aiming point is centered at the screen no matter
how you move the sight. That does'nt give you any advantages to
be able to zoom in at greater distances just disadvantages utilizing the range bars in the sight. Or have I missed a vital
part here?
And what does F8 has to do with all this?

Pan Mode- Camera pans using the view keys.

Tnx

Yes, I was just wondering how what we have compares to what gunners in Panzers, Shermans and T-34s actually had to deal with.
I find that I'm getting pretty accurate when I zoom all the way in, but I couldn't imagine hitting, or even finding, a target that's relatively far away with just 1x magnification.
(Does anyone know what the extreme magnification is for our zoom key?) I guess it's comparable to using a pair of field glasses to find the target and then calling down directions to the gunner.

The Tiger I's optics were stereoscopic and had 2.5x Magnification. Also the gunners view would not elevate when the gun was elevated - there was an indicator in the crosshair.

Dunno about other Panzers.

BTW HTC, can we get a real german tank sight with the "strich" / 4 mil sized triangles ? Pretty please ? I hate shooting at moving targets with the crappy ami sight :)
