Field Names in Maps
« on: February 02, 2003, 04:53:17 AM »
Just a thought is it possible to have RL field names on maps instead of a letter and number, same for cities, etc?

Ramrod to Emden, is better than Ramrod to A32, and we can take off from the south east runway at Halesworth instead of south east runway at A12:).

Sorry if its been mentioned before:).

That is ok in the TOD Arena. But in the MA with the fantasy maps its pointless.

I wouldn't want it for the MA UNLESS they were using a historical map like the Baltic map or some other. However this is exactly what the maps in AH2: ToD would benefit from.

It is up to the mapmaker.  Check out the FinRus terrain, which is in the CT at the moment. Best terrain in AH by far. :)

Agree, ditch the numbers, field names are much better, how about maybe naming some fields after AH players who are no longer with us? be a nice way of remembering them.

Can you imagine Pizza-map with regular names?  I'd be searching all night for the right place to launch from if there was a call for help.  At least with the numbers on the large fictitional maps, you can start narrowing things in because they are in a numerical order.

Why not have both names and numbers ?

Numbers for convenient movement via the .move command (if applicable), names for flavour.

As you know, there is already a workaround by putting names into the clipboard map display.
