Saitek X45 button setups
« on: February 13, 2003, 02:50:53 AM »
I just got a Saitek X45 Stick and Throttle/Rudder. I haven't used it much yet (3 flights). I was wondering if anyone that has had one for awhile has any suggestions for setting up the buttons. I am not having any trouble mapping the functions to the buttons, but am not sure what functions work well with what buttons. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
The only thing I wanted to do, that I wasn't able to do was use the missle launch button for dropping bombs or launching rockets. Any ideas there?
Also, there are two rotary switches. Is there anything these can be used for? I thought maybe trim functions would work good here, but didn't find any way to do it.
Thanks for your time folks.

The rotaries can be tricky to set up, I orginally wanted to use them for trim as well but it was just too hard for me to program (if it's possible at all)

Personally I have the "Launch" button mapped to secondary fire.  The other buttons on the top are my zoom and select secondary weapons.  The Hat is views and the pinkie button on the joystick is my "look up".  Trigger is fire both, since I fly U.S. planes mostly and don't need a seperate cannon and MG trigger.

On the throttle I have the hats there mapped out for trimming my plane and deploying/retracting flaps, a WEP button, and a radio channel transmit key, I don't have pedals so the rocker on the front is my rudder input.

The seond (higher) hat on the joystick I just mapped to random stuff that I wouldn't need in a heartbeat, like lowering my tail hook, or landing gear, etc.

*edit* oh, and for the rotaries I ended up using the big one to bring up the clipboard map, or damage list depending on which way I spun it.
