TBM Attack mission option - request
« on: February 05, 2003, 01:58:47 PM »
This airplane nearly perfectly straddles the definition of both a level bomber (bomb bay and a Norden bomb sight, not to mention torpedoes) and an attack airplane (rockets, dive bombing, machine guns).  Currently, we are only able to score TBM missions as a bomber.

With the ability to fly dive bombing attacks using both bombs and rockets, the TBM should have the ability to be scored as an attack airplane.

Were'nt we also supposed to get the option of flying them in a "box" also?

The hold up was getting a box of them off the cv, but I remember HT saying that it could be coded but other things had priority at the time.

IMO it's appropriate for formation TBMs to be scored as attack, however.

Yes, I've done this many times.  But if we can launch bombers fairly easily, why is the F4U so difficult?

I was responding to the issue about getting formations of TBMs off the CV. I wasn't pointing out that we could launch Bettys, but rather that we could launch a formation of Bettys off the CVs.

"I was responding to the issue about getting formations of TBMs off the CV."

And I was saying you can't take a box of TBMs from anywhere (even though it is a bomber).

If you want to take a heavily laden F4U off of a CV, back up a little first (slowly advance throttle until plane rolls backwards) and give yourself some room.;)

It's all about wing loading. The TBM has much more wing area, therefore greater lift at stall speed. The corsair has more brute force, which makes it more chalengins to harness at slow speeds.

Alsol you dont need to roll back to takeoff in a loaded hog, I wont hijack the thread, but email me at corsair_pilot_mn@yahoo.com and I'll give you the USN procedure.
