Could this be the start of somethin new?
« on: February 06, 2003, 05:30:46 PM »
Great job on the FinRus map. It ROCKS!

One question i have is this:

I notice on the map there are small areas unrelated to the usual strats and fields that gvs can go play in. Unfortunantly they seem to play no real role in the map. Perhaps in the future, maybe it would be nice to relate these areas to zone supply. Using surrounding fields, both gv and AC, to defend and infiltrate. Have the map room in the center(ish) and have a few manable ack.

Just a suggestion, don't even know if its doable. Give me your thoughts.

Actually, I think those little GV combat towns that Kanttori put into the Fin-Russ map provide some interesting possibilities.  Indeed, if they were combined with the GV base in the same way that airfields have towns, they would become a magnet for action.  I would not require the town to be leveled for capture, however.  Otherwise, friendly forces could not destroy the buildings in the town, which you sometimes want to do to clear a field of fire.:)  Hopefully, the CM’s will use this map for a scenario at some point, in which case, control of these towns could be incorporated into the victory conditions.  If HTC ever gives us control of the 88-mm guns (which I believe Kanttori included in those little GV towns), this would make them even more challenging.

By the way Kanttori, in the next update of this terrain, could you please put the little revetments around the man-able defensive guns, if you can do so without blocking their own fields of fire?  Also, when are we going to get bridges in a terrain that you can drive over?  Not directed specifically at you, Kanttori…just frustrated that the long-awaited bridges are little more than eye-candy right now.

I am developing Tank Battle Villages, so give me more good ideas for that (I need grazy ideas, too)! Here's some:

* TB Village can be the VH field's town, I can situate VH's maproom there. Then they are strategy targets!
*more ruins and mannable acks, it's easy to do (now there is one man. ack / village)
*Mannable 88 mm, I am waiting for it... ;)

I think that on last week players didn't notice those villages... They are now "demos", but better TB Villages are coming in next update!

Well to extrapolate I the idea I had originally posted:

Make the TBs control bases. Leave zone control of factories, large cities and TBs to a large airbase, but use the TBs as zone controllers of VBs and AFs. have a VB that spawns to the edge of a TB and an AF or two that spawn just outside of it. Just to paint a picture, have 1 VB and 2 AF for each country spawn to one TB. That TB controls the resupply of those 6 bases. Don't make destroying targets a prerequisite to capture. If a controling country chooses not to defend it, so be it. Of course centrally locate a maproom to facilitate capture.

On a side note, is there a way so that debris doesn't out-right kill a gv? Heck, gvs were designed to "play" in the debris.

More ideas to come as i think of them.

I realy like the idea of putting the map room into the TB village it forces the fight their, curently I just go around them to get to the town or AF  for some killing.

Strat in general is disabled in the CT their targets are their for bomber types but as far as using strat to effect resupply/downtimes it is kinda a catch 22. If strat is enabled then one person who is on a milkruning sortie can drasticaly effect the strat situation and the rebuild time at airbases, in a envoiurment whear generaly their are far fewer players even on a good night than their are in the MA, this can ruin a good fight. Also it is prety rare that CT types "target" strat, typicaly the emphisis is on the capture of the next base or the fight between them. The down side is that for those few who want to play a strat game this is kinda limited to porking the fuel at a airbase.

The debrie issue is one that is aparently coded into the game, for example in WW2 online you can bounce your tanks off buildings trees ect, their planes also bounce off stuff, I have bounced of hanger walls and the taken off undamaged:), In AH it is the oppset.

you might want to the the spawns for those villages right at the edge. on the finrus map, it was easy enough to simply bypass them on the way to the base i wanted to attack. you won;t find many people willing to re-enter a village once they've been ambushed simply for the fun of a gv battle' the objective is usually the base beyond it.  so maybe make the villages a little harder to bypass, and they become strategical in their own right.

iirc, i've ran into trees, bldgs and debris at slow speeds on finrus and have survived, merely coming to a stop.

otoh, i got too close to trees with my gun pointed 90 degrees off front, and then running into trees with the barrel killed me.

:D
