hope this is ok topic for this forum

got some older DOS games i'd like to revisit - Flying Corp, JFIII and some others. but got a fairly new comp with windoze XP.

any easy way of getting these games to run?

I dont know about the more high end DOS games, but there is a GREAT program I found that plays most dos games on XP.

DOS BOX

You have to "mount" the game directory in the program from a DOS prompt, but its easy to do once you figure it out, and while its not perfect...its damned nice.

then after hours of trying to get them to run, they do and you stare at the screen and wonder why you thought it was a good idea to bring them back from the dead

The only games I have gotten running on XP that were worth it were the X-Com 1&2 games. For everything else I don't worry about it. I still have a Win98SE box running (my mother-in-laws computer) that I now put all the DOS games on to play. Its just a hassle to play them now with all the kick butt graphics games out there.

Just reinstalled X-com myself. Runs fine on win2k if you disable directdraw. Its still a kick-ass game!

How'd you guys get XCOM to run? I've tried putting it on my computer (with 98, 98SE and XP), and using some kind of CPU slowdown program, but I can never get it to work. I got it to work in 98, but the controls were far too fast - the globe would spin around 2 or 3 times with even the shortest click. I always end up going down in the basement and digging out the old pentium 75mhz when I'm in an XCOM mood.

X-COM was a great game. Gets my vote as best PC game of all time.

tried 'Old Dog' Dos out once, ran about 3000x to fast to play.

(B52 bomber sim)
