Server Maintenance Notice
« on: February 24, 2003, 07:27:41 PM »
As we have stated, in the recent past we had discovered a potential operating system problem relating to the use of MySQL with FreeBSD.

Since then we have been making changes to the servers in order to reduce the potential cause of the problem.

We also have ordered Solaris 9.0 with the intent of replacing FreeBSD as our operating system.  In the meantime we established contacts with the FreeBSD engineers to see what could be done.

Today the FreeBSD engineers have sent use a few patches for the operating system to apply.  They feel confident this will resolve our problem and they have tested it.

Tomorrow (2/25), we intend to test this.  To accomplish this task, we will need to move the Main Arena from the current server to the second server we have at our colocation facility.

This will allow us to install and test the patches.  Once we are satisfied the server is stable, we will move the Main Arena back to the newly patched server and begin monitoring it.

If there is a problem with the new patches, we will bring down the arena and restore the original code and work-arounds we are using now.

Time frames for this is a bit sketchy due to the ice storm in our area, but we hope to have this done in the morning hours CST with minimum downtime.
