I dont know were it started, But it seems to be a wide spread misconseption that the Mosquito is some flying peice of crud.

I have an AW background and Most folks with knowledge there knew it was the poorest FM Job in the game.  It was modeled to have horible handling charcteristics.  From what I understand it was much better in WBs.

From what I know of the Mosquito, AH has done a fantastic job recreating this aircraft.  It was fast, handled well for its size and deadly.

People will just come to respect the Mossie and learn to deal with it.

HTC  Thanks for the Mosquito and doing a great job.

Only thing it's REALLY got is Speed and Guns,. it's alot heaver then other fighters and can quite easily be outmanuvered and outclimed, don't try and run from it at the deck though, this thing can easily outrun LA7's.

I agree with wilbuz. I had a mossy engage my low D30, He tried to follow my scissor and while I was surprised at how well it rolled, it still coul.d not keep up and I was quickly on his 6. I will say this, it is now as anemic as I thought it would be.

Nash just about whupped my ass.  Him in the Mossie, me in a P51D... now, I'll grant that Nash is a much better pilot than I am, but whoopee that thing can turn on a dime - better than my pony could w/ a notch of flaps.  I think what really got me was that this was the first time I attacked one, and I didn't give the beast half the respect I should have from the outset... lucky for me, I dragged him out long enough for a friendly to take him off my 6... but if he hadn't?

What a load of BS.

The mossie is dead meat in AH, it is a big target, sure it can turn but it slows it down real quick. Its verticle sucks beyond belief.

Soon as it came out I thought... "hmm is the successor to my beloved Tiffie" with all those guns so I went offline and performed some basic tests. One of these included a zoom from a flat 320kias at low level. The tiffie outzoomed the mossie by an easy 1500-2000 feet. Now the tiffie is NOT the best zoomer in the game.

Of note was the vertical control in the mossie was shockingly bad. The engines don't appear to be contra-rotating so torque is a major issue as well.

If you're having problems with Mossies its either because you're up against a pilot who knows how to use this machines abilities, or you're flying your machine the wrong way.

I don't think the mossie is faster than the La-7 at any altitude, Wilbus.

But I love it dearly. I'm learning dive-bombing in it ASAP so it can replace my tiffie.  :)

Bear in mind Gentlemen that the Mossie was typically a lone night intruder (most RCAF Squadrons) seeking targets of opportunity in low level raids. It's defense was it's speed - it's offense obvious.
In AH it can be a monstrous killer but it needs fighter cover in the theater we fly.

The comment was made above that the Mossie is fragile, but I've sustained some pretty decent pings from ack and other a/c and lived through it with acceptable damage.  And it does one of my favorite tricks very well, the low-level enemy base ambush.  It gets there quick, blows away anyone taking off, then egresses to fast for anyone to catch you.  Love hunting trains in it too; it never runs out of ammo.

Had a fight in the Mossie with an F6F that most impressed me.  The guy was on my six at less than 3k distance.  I dropped below his line of sight going over a ridge, then did a pitch-back on him.  Made one HO on him where I pinged him and he pinged me (no damage to me).  The I repeated the pitch-back and caught him in a second HO (he should have learned on the first pass).  I tore him up, but he didn't disintegrate fast enough.  We collided, with him blowing up and me lossing a section of my right wing.  I managed to stay airborne and make it back to my base.  I found it under heavy enemy attack, so I just bailed out as I passed over head (controls were pretty squirly, so I would have bailed anyway, regardless of enemy).  I'm most happy with the Mossie.  Thanks HTC!

I can say this about the mossie..

I (f6f) have never brake turned so hard as i did last night when i had one booming on my six, fast. He managed to mangle me with a tracking shot.

Hell i dont even like having them at a steady 1k behind me, with all those guns even a blind burst can hit you.

flying the F6F being as tough as it is, i normaly dont mind a few pings, but when its a mossie shooting at you there is not such thing as a "few ping"   hehe

The most dangerous 'Mozzie' is the one you don't see. The late comer to the fight might get you easy enough, but in a 1v1 fight it's going to lose (unless you're inept).

The La7 can flatfoot it away from a Moss. In the vertical, nearly any fighter can take it. If, you catch one low, you may not even have to fire your guns!  :) They do have some wicked stall and departure characeristics.

BUT, for taking home fighter perks, it cannot be beat.

I think these things should travel in packs of 12-24. I found a group of four one night. They didn't fight as a team, and they should have, so they all died as individuals. Given the weave ability of this plane, a large group of team players could rake up some kills.

Just a thought...
