Journalistic Integrity
« on: February 17, 2003, 10:53:10 AM »
Does it bother you that news orgizations have so few scrupuls these days?  They will air Hearsay and conjecture and flat out guesses .... CNN is very bad at this, as are most mass-media american News programs , but I was disheartend when a much better news orgination was seen to be doing the same type of thing, the BBC.  Yesterday I was watching a PBS broadcast of the BBC world news and they aired talk of man who was speacking of baiting women from russia to other countries for prostitution .... he then talks about where money made from this goes .. he says it funds drugs, and thier other illict activites and MAYBE that some of the money goes to terrorists!

"Maybe!" come on! WTF is with this fear agenda!  Do journalist's have no sense of truth over airing guesses and creating fear? Where did journalistic Integrity go ... or are they gonna just start makeing things up?

Crap like this scares me as much as the Patriot act I & II, because most people don't have a mind to question things like that; most of you might .... but people on AH boards are not usally that uneducated.

Its good to get your news from various sources not one.

Its good to listen to both sides of the arguement (that goes for talk radio too) rather than one.

Then decide for yourself, and put that decision in action by voting at every level, county, state, and country.

I'm talking about them useing scare tactics...... "Maybe the money goes to terrorists"   that's not journalisim....

I'm used to it from Cnn, and other US news org.'s.... but the BBC has always held a truer view of things in my mind,  it just saddens me.

Journalism's soul reason to operate is $$. Doesn't matter if it leans left, right, communist or libertarian...it all comes down to "controversy and chaos = cash" As long as you keep this in mind, and filter out the BS, then you can actually see the news being reported without bias.

They colect stories that reflect their "weltanschauung". The put umm all in one place to give the reader a biased view. I can link you to many right wing or Nazi sites that do the same thing. They steal headlines and stories and wrap them up with their biases.

You are the one that brings up "journalistic integrity". If you cant see that crap for what it is that you arent qualified to challenge the integrity of anyone.

Although the BBC has/was/is by no means perfect in terms of Journalistic integrity, it has recently gone downhill in this area. Over here in Limey land it has been slated repeatedly for "Dumbing Down" and "Americanising" of the news ( Sorry guys, just how we see CNN :P ). But what do u expect when Tony Blair's buddy Greg Dyke is runnin the BBC .

You challenge the scrupuls of mainstream media in this thread then link "news" stories from another site who bias is absolutely clear.

Russia "mobsters" have direct links to the poppy farms of the mid and far east. Some of these poppy farms are in areas controlled by terrorists and warlords. They, like the rebels in Columbia, use the money from the sale of drugs to fund their "movements". Those involved in prostitution in russia could very well be connected to "mobsters".

So that "biased" show you described is more accurrate then the links you posted from that "left wing" site. All news orgs sensationalize the news in order to sell it. But I thought kinda strange you would challenge the integrity of one segment while promoting another.

Yes that site spews out a tainted view on the world.
