Always 800 to 1.3!  If I get closer I'll collide with the enemy and I'll crash.  Enemy will get the kill!  Happened again tonite!

Maybe I'll start shooting from 1.5!

I have my convergence set at 250 for the outboard four guns and 200 for the inboard two guns.
Between 250-500 the outboard guns have the same wingspan spread. If I tag the con in that range, I'm closing fast, by the time I release the outboard guns and hit the inside four, they are smokin'. If I don't tag them, with the outboards, I close to within 250.

I try not to fire beyond 500 yds.  (With p51 you have to be even closer to do real damage. )  On the plus side the .50s fly nice and straight, making hits pretty easy to score.  Occasionally I'll open up at 650 yds with 2 MGs just to get someone to roll away from me. (Makes them a bigger target.   )

Depending on closure speed i'll start shooting further out ..

but usually i try to hold back till at just over convergence (350 Yards).. but depending on the situation i'll shoot to a max of 2x convergence (700-800 yards) everything else is a waste of ammo.

I would like to use 250,however due to the vagaries of the net, I find that getting that close results in an unacceptable amount of "jumping around" (not really a warp, just a jitter) so I plan my engagement envelope from 500 to 300 and hope for a good hit pattern.
But hey, look at my sig, what do I know about it?

Nothing better than a d50 ambush!

I generally wait until I am under d350, unless flying 1C.  About d250 seems optimum.

I set convergence to 300 yards for TnB fighter, and 400 yards for BnZ Fighter.

I always begin shooting within 250-350 yards.

Cheers.

In the rare instance I'm on someones 6 I'll look for opening up as range goes through 450 - found anyhing around 500 and above is wasted ammo. Convergence is set to 400 on canons and 350 on MG's - are those sensible figures and if not why not?

I set the convergence of my twin .50's on my Spit to 500yds, and use them for trying to make a running bandit think I'm closer than I really am, by squirting tracers past his windscreen.

My Hispanos are set to 300yds, and I use them for killing. I don't feel confident about hitting a plane unless it's within 300 yds.

On a non-maneuvering con I'll take the '6' shot from about 550 yds.  My stang has convergence set for 400 on outer bank, and 375 for inner bank of guns.

With a fast closure rate, if I open up at 550 he's usually dead well before I reach 400yds.

For a maneuvering con, I'll take any shot from about 500yds on in.  Doesn't seem to be any problem connecting at that range, no matter how hard a turn he's pulling.

I had a strange one last night...

I was flying the dweebfire, and fighting a 109 roughly co e.  He was attempting to spiral climb me at loooo speed and was approximately 850-900 away from me.  I was roughly at his 5 oclock, and thought what the hell I've got 1400 rnds of .303 so I took a pot shot.  I didn't see any hits register, and fired about 120 rnds.  3 seconds later POP! he blowed up good...  Think I had convergence at default.
