Have to go read up to get the right dates, but some number of millions of years ago, this area was under water. :)

The pinnacles you see are volcanic I believe. They feel almost like dirty glass.

I've seen what you mean on discovery.  They call them "smokers" or something like that.  They are vents and the water around them is very warm.  Interesting.

God, in his infinite wisdom, decided to make England the most boring, safe and hospitable land in the world. We don't have the exciting weather required to make such dramatic, beautiful terrain. :)

OTOH, We got a aways to go equal your long and colourful history, Dowding.

Where exactly were those photos taken?

Looks pretty cool to me.  I can see why Hollywood would embrace it.  It looks sufficiently "other world"-ish, like the surface of the moon if it had an atmosphere.
