Basically it was a chat room you entered when you logged on into AW.

We had 9 of them, was a GREAT place to meet prior to a squad night,or chat with somone you were going to recruit etc etc,it really gave (to me) the feeling of kinda being at an airfield, clicking on doors took you to these rooms, very immersive, somthing I miss very very much from AW,Id LOVE to see something like this maybe in AH2,besides,would be real handy for leaving the sheep in prior to going on a sortie :D

There were the O.C. rooms, H.Q. and briefing rooms at each base.

To each their own. Sure seemed like a much handier user interface and well as a better relaxed atmosphere place to gather and discuss serious and not-so-serious matters. As much as I like AH ... the clipboard is a real pita.

As soon as u got out of flight in AW u was seperated from the "inflight chat"
U got back in the tower.
Here u could sit around and wait for ur buddys to show up or return from a mission.
In the tower u could choose ur plane and loadout and request a crew for ur bombers.
From the tower u could also reach the ready or briefing room.
Where u can invite people and close the door.
U were able to lower the light and people had to virtually raise their hands to be able to talk.
U could make a *.txt file and upload it in the brieifing room chat buffer.
For instructions.
To be able to chat with ur friends in flight or outsie u had to go to the "radio Room" grab the headset and go on a channel

What you describe is essentially covered by the yellow channels we have now, which can be country secure. You can use them as briefing 'rooms'.

A more visual display would be good - perhaps showing a map that the mission creator can move a cursor over. This cursor might be made visible to those that are part of the mission, so that the flight leader can show areas of interest for the mission ahead.

something involveing channels and an active "whiteboard Map" could be handy

i.e. the mission orginizer/squad leader would have a markable map, with the marks showing up to all the mission players as packets update em' ... a map seen by all the mission players with basic 'paintbrush' controls for CO and maybe allow marks by anyone if the CO calls a 'rasied hand'....

Think how easy things would be to plan with a markable map.  Waypoints help but they don't illastrate (bet i'm worse than HT at spelling)

Man that brings back memories .  Officers club gave you somewhere to meet other pilots do a little plottin and planning check scores ect, and the inflight chatter on chan 1 could be sent to an OC instead of filling up the text buffer. Maybe less the inflight server has to deal with? Another advantage was the briefing rooms could be secured by name if I remember.  Spies could be locked out while planning missions which I hear is a big concern here.

Don't get hung up on the picture or the AW refernces and I think you might like the idea.

What I miss is the score box you could have popup at the end of your flight. It showed the last 10 or so guys you shot down, # of landed missions, # of deaths and # of kills for each. You can get this in AH, plus alot more, but it was still a nice little quick check on how your month was going. Plus it was real handy for seeing who was killing who, since you could click on other pilots and see their stats too.
