Clipping problem
« on: February 24, 2003, 07:33:31 AM »
See pic attached. 2 views, same base. Wether the runway shows up seems dependant on where you view it from, generally closer the runway will show up, further out it will get overlayed by the base object.

I'm going to reskin the base texture anyway and I can get round the problem by making a gap for the runway but I wondered if there was a 'proper' way to sort this out.

Runway is set as 'runway' base texture is set as 'void'
All taxiways are also set as 'runway' and I have no probems with them.
All object are within a single grid square. (Object report no gives no errors)

What are you using as the BASE

OILDIRT, VDEPOT,CITY......?

Some shapes do this when one is ontop of another.

To see what I mean try placing 2 VDEPOT so that they over lap each other.

P.S.  Base should also be set as RUNWAY this way it won't be destroyed by weapons.

Also just for the hell of it.... check the Altitude of each of the 9 vertices of the Grid Square to see that they are all at the same Altitude.  I've found that the NON-FLAT TERRAIN checker is not 100% accurate.

You can do this, MOST of the voids for other feilds work ( oildrt, barracks, radar, etc) what will NOT work or do what you see are useing LAVA,snowcap,lake1.

You can use the void your using BUT you cannot use the runways, trust me on this one, This is what i've been working on the last few months. You CAN replace the runways with STRTAXI in a series with the same results, and no clipping.

Have you done any testing with the B-ROAD Nuttz instead of the RUNWAY shape?
Just wondering since they are a longer shape 1980ft compared to the STRTAXI which are only 300ft long.

No, But thanx for the idea:)

I used a reskinned VH void for small runways and added strtaxi.
It looks SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why fix something when it ain't broke?

The base is the PORT object. Hence the VOID setting.

I was ever so slightly short of airfields. Having been to Culdrose and Yeovilton NAS recently I figured why not double the port up as a Naval Air Station. Naval aircraft plus any bomber capable of dropping torps plus goons enabled.

That's the idea anyway. I'm still playing with it.

OK, since you are using a Port, here what I know, do what you want with the information.

Port Shapes set with Properties

VOID + Can Collide = Port CAN be destroyed by weapons, but docks are collideable

VOID + (NO) Can Collide = Port CAN NOT be destroyed, but you can pass thru the docks

RUNWAY + Can Collide = Port CAN NOT be destroyed, but you can pass thru the docks

RUNWAY + (NO) Can Collide = Port CAN NOT be destroyed, but you can pass thru the docks

BARRIER + Can Collide = Port CAN NOT be destroyed ( man I dropped alot of BOMBS...... oh ya.... Protect Objects was set to NO in the arena settings :) ) and docks are collideable.   This seems to be the best choice in MHO ;)

NOTE!!!  I think all fields should have a SAFE ZONE like the size of a REARM PAD that Ground Vehicles and Boat can stop within to EF and not get the Ditch Message............doesn't this affect Perk Points?
