You guys ever hear about that liberty tanker that blew up in texas hauling all that fertilizer?  560 killed thousands injured.  Town pretty much leveled by a ship in the harbor.

Actually, there were two events. The one in the photo in the original post was of Medina AFB at the time of the explosion.  It was taken by a private pilot that happened to have his camera.  Can you imagine how that shockwave must have shook that airplane?

mc202,
I live about 25 miles from Herlong, grew up watching them shoot off their 10k lbs demo pits, rattled the windows of my parents about 20 miles away.  Remember in the late 70's when that daisy cutter went off in its igloo?  Broke a few windows around the valley.

BTW used to work for REMSA in '99' as a paramedic.

That and the boxes that fell off a truck that were turned in by locals, C-5's said to be landing at night during one of the mid-east brew-ups, rumors of ...non-standard ways to "render inert"...
The fun of governmental disposal of old toys.
Then there was the post WWII explosives salvage plant in Sparks, they would dig the explosives out of naval mines to re-use. Some kids brought a five pound lump (RDX?) home from where the plant used to be...
