I've had a few Motorolas, a Touchpoint 2200(made for Sprint by Kyocera), one Sony-Ericson T60 series, and my current is a Nokia 6360.

Out of all of them, my Mot Startac and the Touchpoint 2200 were the best. Durable, functional, user friendly, and good range (or at least not noticeably bad range). The Ericson T60whatever had the most awful range, and the damn thing ran in half-duplex half of the time...I took that piece of garbage back and got the Nokia 6360. Not horrible, but definitely not as user friendly as the Moto or Touchpoint phones I had. If I was buying a new phone today, it'd be a Moto, no question.

As for service, in my area Sprint PCS is without a doubt the best as far as quality. The service area isn't as good as Verizon, and their customer service is just plain awful, but they've got a decent online system where you can monkey with your account settings. However, the sound quality was just like that dipshit says on the commercial. As good or better than a land line...which worked great, since I said goodbye to land lines a few years ago. Free LD with family in Wisconsin was just too good to pass up.

Get a real digital camera and you can take 'artistic' photos for ... ahh... 'nieces'. ....

I have a new Nokia 8265. It works very good! I use to have a little toejamty 8260. What junk. I got more minutes talking to my windshield, and asking, "can you hear me now, hold on, I'm coming to the top of the hill."

Can't wait for the HUD phone w/e-mail for my windshield.

I've got no compaints with my cheap little 5160. no camera or other frills but it always works. over the last year I've dropped it from 12-15 feet, dropped it in water, mud, ash and God knows how many chemicals at work(mostly in powder or ash form, water and mud once each the only liquids). plus it has a half dozen peices of steel melted into it. and it still works every day.

I wouldn't mind that camera thing though. you wont take any award winning pics, but it would be damn handy for evidence purposes. like after an auto accident (I wouldn't need to keep that disposable in the glove box). or if there where an unsafe situation at work (they can take your camera and keep the film if they think you've taken pictures of major saftey violations. there's not much you can do about it, it is their property). if you had one of those you could take the pics and send them off and they couldn't be confinscated.

so what do those camera ones go for? and are they fairly rugged?

That's exactly what a guy at work did, when a taxi flew into his Subaru Impreza Turbo.

They'd never be able to hid something like a major safety incident in Britain. The Health and Safety Executive have more power than police - they don't need a warrant to come onto premises or any kind of notice at all.

Capt.Apathy I don't think they're selling 7650 model in states, AFAIK it's only made for 900/1800MHz GSM frequencies.
Price is about ~450$.

Nokia 3650 is having a camera/camcorder and it is a TriBand phone using GSM 900/1800/1900 networks (I believe it's 1900MHz freq in States?) but price is pretty salty ~600$.

In some Siemens and Ericsson models you can attach a camera in the bottom of the phone; I haven't tested 'em so I can't say anything about them.

Another option could be a small "SpyCam"; I've seen some which are pretty cheap (around 50-100$) and sizes/shapes from credit-card to thumb to pencil.

don't think I'd need to go the 'spy cam' route. it doesn't come up that often. I've had maybe 3 times in 15 years where I saw something so bad with a company unwilling to fix it when mentioned that I needed evidence and in those cases I just went to the store got a camera and came back and didn't care who got mad.

having it built into your phone would be cool 'cause you'd always have it when needed. and if the company denies the violation I could just take the pic and send it instantly to my bussiness agent, who would have a pic in front of him before he ever had to talk to the company rep.

I'll have to wait until the get fairly cheap though. anything that I carry on my person (watches, wallets, glasses, etc) gets torn up fairly fast.
