Guess it must be something in that imported cheese and wine they've been fed lately.

Yah, read that. Interesting, isn't it. Some might conclude that their hearts are not truly in fighting to preserves Husseins tyranny. Some might think they're eager to be done with him.

Of course, all of those would be wrong no doubt.  ;)

"The stunned Paras from 16 Air Assault Brigade were forced to tell the Iraqis they were not firing at them, and ordered them back to their home country telling them it was too early to surrender."

Yeah, but Curval.. think what happened to them when they got back.

It truly is sad.

Last night the Ministry of Defence officially denied the incident had taken place
which is strange considering what a propaganda coup this is. But no doubt the "British Army source in Kuwait" and the "intelligence source" of the Mirror (a tabloid usually looked upon as being of questionable veracity in this BBS, if memory serves) are impeccable, and in no way denotes that it was a slow news day, spiced up by some nonsense from unnamed sources that is uncorroborated by the MoD. I note the byline is "Mike Hamilton reports from Camp Coyote in Kuwait", and that reminded me of a Robert Fisk article in the Independent on War journalists cosying up to the military.

The Daily Mirror is a load of old bollocks. I don't really trust anything it says. I don't think any other paper even mentioned this story, and no news service carried it.

Dowding, I agree with that 101%. NB - this was the Sunday Mirror, but the same thing applies.

However, based on what Monk said of his experiences in Iraq during the first phase of this war in 1991, it is entirely believable. That's why I believe that the forthcoming second phase of this war (2003) will be over very quickly, with minimal loss of life. I do not see "millions of dead Iraqis" - except those killed by Saddam. Instead, I see millions of happy, smiling Iraqi faces in the days after Saddam is toppled. That's why I'm one of the 15% of people in the UK who feel that the war should go ahead, with or without UN mandate. Wince, suck through your teeth/whatever: I personally believe that the special relationship between Britain and the US is more important than an ailing UN - another light that failed, as GB1 called it.

Hehe, true or not it isn't hard to believe. Many were very willing to surrender after the previous round. Seems I remember videos of 'em on their knees kissing hands. Suspect it won't be so different this time around. No doubt some will put a fight, certainly not all.
