I've got a small problem with the target locations for Frame 2.

This applies to both allied and axis targets.

Most of the targets are clustered into one area which will make for some exciting attacks and defences. However, both the allies and the axis have one target that is well away (2 or more sectors) from the other target areas.

If we play by the rules, that means at least 2 squads from each side has to either defend or attack these 2 areas. (1 squad to attack, and 1 to defend) That puts 4 squads in the position of seeing very little action (possibly none) during the entire frame.

For example, if I send a squad to defend the lone target at 6,11,1 that squad could wait the entire frame for an attacking squad that could have as few as 4 attckers (based on committed numbers) or, worst case see none at all (if the axis squad assigned to attack that target doesn't show)

Meanwhile, the remainder of the suqads that are attacking/defending the clustered targets will be seeing action the whole time.

I would like to see the isolated targets removed so that the action can be concentrated and the chances of a squad being left out on a worthless patrol is minimized.

While I think this is a valid concern I really would like to have seen the targets spread across a wider area. I know its still early on in the week so is it a problem to re-issue targets?

I don't like the idea of grouping them all together in one area though. You end up not utilizing your entire aircraft inventory capability and getting the potential for good matchups in the same patch of sky.

In our case if we had all our targets grouped together in one area that covers 3-3.5 sectors I would expect to run into a larger group of very defensive minded flyers. With most of them flying aircraft that are extremely nimble and seeing over 50 in one area like that is not what I want to do and I certainly don't want to hear about sending my guys into a slaughter house like that. Especially when the Axis strike aircraft are not that agile against the highly agile Allied rides. On the flip side the Allies would run into the exact same concept and I could have as many as 70-90 pilots waiting in 4 sectors for the enemy to show up. While I am sure that would be a blast to fly against I don't think that is what we all want. I could be wrong but I don't think I am.

So if it is possible can we have the targets re-issued and spread out a bit more.

What if I promise to have only 40 Tempests defending the Axis targets :D

Actually, I somewhat agree. It's a double edged sword I guess.

If you look at the target map I am sure you realize that they are placed in such a way to give variety. Both sides have two targets very close. Both sides have two other targets within a sector. Both sides have targets a sector or two away. Finally both sides have a target 3 to 4 sectors away. So in one area you will see a LOT of action and some wild fast play. Other areas more modest action and finally one area where they will see action, but limited to their target area.

Each side has 5 targets to attack and 5 targets to defend. All targets must be attacked. There is no way a squad can go without seeing any action unless you don’t assign a squad to attack a target or you don’t assign a squad to protect a target.

As you can see you both want something different. One wants the targets close, the other far apart. Gentlemen, my design offers the best of both and that is exactly why I did it. You will find that unless someone drops the ball, all squads will see action in my frames.

I will suggest this you both, have one of your mid size squads (or two smaller ones) attack and defend the more distant target. I really don’t like to do that because it takes away some of the “unknown” in our events. Their comes a point where effort to balance and guarantee even game play removes some of the excitement IMHO.

Thanks for clearing this up Daddog. Axis orders are going out tonight to give our guys plenty of time to get ready. This was not meant to...ahhh cause a public issue for the members of SquadronOps.

Oh and yeah we are both little whiny guys. :D

Been a while since I was an Admin CM so many don't know I designed the TOD's (now Squad Operations) and ran the first three we ever had.  Also trained many of the former Admin CM's we had. I like to think I know what I am doing, but certainly am not above making mistakes. :eek:
