Pt Torpedos Improvement?
« on: March 14, 2003, 10:58:11 AM »
Did the new patch work on the Torpedoes?

It sure seems to have.

In the CT last night we had a Cruiser group in close shelling the island so our squad launched a massive PT boat raid on them. (Well as massive as you can get with 8 people).

We got all the ships but 1 Destroyer - myself sinking both CA's with a single spread of torps. :D

Now I realize I am good (modest too ;)  ) but you NEVER could do that before!

I did somthimg similar to that on wed there was a fleet harrassing a10 so me and najdorf up a couple of "betty" formations climb to 10k as we arrive over the fleet it is turning so I drop my heavy bombs and low and behold I got two ships on one bomb drop and najdorf got 1 plus an a20.Unfortunatly I only got destroyers not the big ships.

WTG on the PT torps I can never hit with those things.

if you could pls describe your technique in detail, I for one would greatly appreciate it given the fact I have not hit anything with a torp yet :)

I had a personal best (more like a miracle) thurs nite. Two consecutive torp runs in a kate and two ships sunk. This was pre-patch I believe. I would think HTC would say so if they made any major changes to weaponry. They usually do.  You guys probably just made a real good run Andi, wtg.

Hey Eagler,
First thing you got to do is get ahead of the fleet (this works for PT's as well as aircraft) and make sure of it's current course. A beam or trailing shot is a waste of time and fish.

Once ahead of the ships you want to position yourself where you are about 45 degrees off their bows.

As there is no sight on the PT use the side of the boat as a reference mark to position yourself. Try to keep your 45 degree angle on the run in. You may have to do some manuvering if they have manned gunners.

Close till you see their auto A/A fire start to shoot at you. The second it does fire your first fish and turn away in the direction of travel OPPOSITE of the ships. As you turn, fire the other 3 fish in a "Fan."

After you fire jump to the stern 40mm gun as you can usually get a few licks in with it before you are out of range. Some times you can knock out the flack gun positions on a ship.

BUT make sure you continue your turn first or you will be running into the destroyer screen.

Hope this helps guys !
