Gameplay Question: Keeping Interest in AH2
« on: March 29, 2003, 06:40:34 AM »
Hi guys

I've been playing AH for over 3 years and have enjoyed it tremendously.  I look forward to new graphic engines, terrains, aircraft and gameplay.  AH2 does indeed look promissing, although after deep thought I have a few issues that could affect the long term stability of AH2: TOD.

Okay, it's going to be a mission type arena, new missions posted every hour.  You have a career path, a long term direction of where you want to go.  This may appeal to us all, but what about when you've already done this for a couple of months.  Do you think that we'll all tire of it?  The basic idea is fantastic... but imagine... Your mission (should you decide to accept it ;)) is to escort a flight of B17s over enemy territory.  Their survival will mean your success.  What if you don't engage anything, or you do this frequently.  You could have masses of cons beneath you, but you must escort your bombers back home to progress...

What I'm trying to say is something I can't quite put into words.  Each mission will have a set path, deviation could prove detrimental... will this mean less engagements, being extra cautious, no furballs etc.?

Don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to this, but alike the CT or Scenarios, I think it will only be successful for awhile and then everyone will move back to the MA.  I could see myself enjoying TOD quite a bit but I know for sure I won't be spending as much time in there as I would in the MA.

So, what are other peoples thoughts?

Do you see it as a mission orientated replacement for the CT or as a replacement for the MA? (I know Classic will be a new MA).

Do you think TOD will keep you interested?

Will you be playing TOD primarily or secondary to the MA (Classic)?

Do you think TOD will provide full emersion?

Are you looking forward to an Allied vs Axis arena more than anything?

Regards

I remember reading a post from Hitech or Pyro (or someone else at HTC) saying that missions would be launched from both sides with the specific intent of trying to get people together.

I think in the interview on simhq, it was said that missions will be deliberately planned so you have resistance. If both sides are going to have fighter sweeps, then the mission will be programmed so that the 2 sides meet up.
