Sidewinder "Rudder" for Views
« on: March 18, 2003, 06:33:59 PM »
I recently purchased a set of CH Pro pedals to go with my throttle and sidewinder force feedback 2. I was previously using the 'twist' function of the stick to control the rudder but of course that's what the pedals are for.

I want to use the twist grip to control view-yaw but am stumped. Aces High recognizes the motion of the stick being twisted (it shows a waveform in the blue oscilloscope-like screen when twisted) and I have set it up to corespond to VIEW YAW in the joystick mapping dialogue box. But, I can't seem to find a way to associate it with look-left and look-right in the stick-mapping setup dialogue screen.

I click on look-left (for instance) and then twist the stick left but there is nothing that toggles down as there would be if I had clicked a button or pushed a hat switch.

Any ideas?

VIEW YAW will only work in F8 view mode, which is PAN mode.

I don't think you can configure it to work in any other mode

So next time you take off press F8 (you will have to do this everytime you takeoff)

I'll try that out. This may not be such a bad solution since I could configure one of the buttons or hats on my throttle to put it into PAN mode, then perhaps another to put it back into default cockpit-interior mode. Might get pretty confusing in the midst of a furball though.

I wonder if it would be possible to petition HTC to add a snap-view twist capability to the game in one of the upgrades. It seems that a good number of people have the sidewinder and rudder pedal setup, which leaves the twist-action pretty much useless.
