Were the reports before the bombing began of the Iraqi leadership allegedly dispersing their troops amongst the civilian population.
Now, we are seeing reports of Iraqi soldiers in civilian clothing, "surrendering" then taking up weapons. Republican Guard officer captured in civvie clothes, told American troops that there were more of them holed up in nearby buildings, all dressed like civilian Iraqis.
Seems to me Hussein is less concerned about "his people", the civilians of Iraq, than he is making sure he is protected.
Saw a reporter on the front lines ask a soldier "What do to see out there?" After the soldier replied that he saw several people in civilian clothing the reporter asked "What will you do if one of them picks up a weapon?"
The soldier replied, "Then we have the green light to shoot him."
Anyone else seeing Hussein's true colors now, that he is a thug, nothing more, nothing less?
Using civilians to shield your trained "elite" troops falls within the chicken**** category in my book. Sure as hell, some civilian is gonna get killed because some trained Iraqi soldier put him at risk and brought him into the line of fire.
Then the anti-American folks will have a field day, even though the coalition forces are making it clear that they want to see as few innocent civilians harmed as possible.
This looks more and more like we are fighting a Chicago-style gang than an organized army. Use anyone and anything, even your own countrymen, to keep alive.
I was worried about the war intially, but after seeing Hussein's and the other Iraqi leadership's actions, now more than ever I feel we are doing the right thing.
Looks like the best possible solution is no more of the "Okay, just lay down your rifle and go home", stuff. Put them in custody and make sure the guy you capture today won't be pointing a rifle or machine gun at you tomorrow.
