P 119 in PT Boats of World War two shows a similar craft, and the Alpha Numeric code on the pick avove of FL624 would sugest that this is indead a F-lighter.

the source I got this from claims it's an assault landing craft

Marinefährprahm (MFP)
which I think from my translation is naval landing craft

Marinefährprahm type C is what it is


can someone fluant in german tell me exactly what the name means?

Ya I think so:), If your souce is right:)

   The FL though is kinda preplexing, I know many came in different shaps and sizes and weapons load out's. It could be that the barges that were intended for operation sea lion were converted later into F-lighters, or that these were all fairly standard in their size and hull design being simply coastal barges, or Ocean going Barges, hince the similarity.
