You're not a dork for reading Clarke Sikboy, he da man. Though Childhood's End covers the same basic concept in a better manner IMO (the HAL stuff was a great component of 2001 however).

Both pilots of the helicopter were captured by iraqies and now they are on iraqies TV. As well as the peasant with Mauser K-98 who forced the landing of the Apache.

Just heard on CNN - captured AH64 has been destroyed by US.  No word on whether it was a missile or egg.
