Please don’t confuse Pacifica Radio with NPR. Pacifica Radio is your local “Death to America” radio station. It’s like the FOX news service for liberals.

I plan my Friday’s around, “NPR Science Friday”.

In FY2000, 46% of NPR revenues were contributions; 40% came from member stations... In a typical year, government funding and endowments account for about 14%.

It's not fully funded by the government. In fact, the majority of the funding is not government.

For comparison purposes, 680 stations in the U.S. air some NPR programming. Clear Channel owns over 1200 stations and controls 247 of the 250 radio markets in this country with CC controlling the programming 24/7.

Too bad  the free market allows Clear Channel to strive I guess.

NPR is a government run station that would not exist otherwise.

Fact is that Clear Channel stations have the  "clear" support of consumers

It's not a free market if the richest company effectively owns the market. It's not a free market at all if all of the stations in any given region have the same programming. It's the same reason that Microsoft found themselves in court.

Having one company control the media is every bit as bad as having the government do it. In fact, FCC chairman Powell (the son of Colin Powell) created the Media Ownership Working Group and tasked it with developing a factual foundation for reevaluating FCC media ownership policies.

How does one company control the media exactly? I wonder where the listeners are coming from.

And Microsoft....... what system do you run on your computer and why?

I rest my case.

Yes you have. Your head is in the sand.

There are already numerous anti-trust suits on file against Clear Channel.

I get it now, Clear Channel is a marketing group. I guess it’s a left coast thing.

I was thinking about the REAL meaning of clear channel.

Clear Channel = FCC allocation of a radio frequency to transmit with higher power. The FCC will not issue a license to transmit that would interfere with the station that has rights to the clear channel frequency.

Note: This applies to AM radio. FM radio using “Clear Channel” is just a marketing ploy.

Do you realise that you can run the  Linux OS on your computer for free? The trick is that you have to have a few computer skills to operate it, but it is still FREE and POWERFUL...... more powerful than MS.

So you think MS has a monopoly?

MS has a consumer MARKET that buys it's product...... you included. You could get a free OS if you wanted.

I wonder what is forcing you to run the MS operating system?

No false acquiescence. :)

Really... it's not about liberal or conservative media... If CC was a liberal company (yeah, I know... oxymoron), but if it was this would still upset my democratic sensibilities.

The organization that controls the media, controls the voters and in turn, controls the governent and the country. I really believe that diversification of the media is the key to a truly democratic society.

As a matter of fact, I do know that I can run another OS... and yes, I know how. Nevertheless, Microsoft was in court fighting monopoly accusations.
