Question
« on: April 03, 2003, 09:59:49 PM »
Here's a question that that child porno thread got me wondering about; when does one qualify as a pedophile? If you're 40 and like 6 year old girls, ok no brainer there, but what about 40 year olds who like 15 or 16 year olds? Prolly, in my opinion. I mean, I'm 18, but I'd hardly consider myself a pedophile for liking females that are two/three years younger than me. But, if I did like females that were 6 years old, then I would be a pedophile, even at 18. Anyone have any comments/feedback they'd like to add?

most laws defining statutory rape  have one age for consent when the older partner is less than say, two years older than the younger partner (Like Minnesota, 17 and 16, ok; 19 and 16, not ok), and another age where the age difference is greater (might be 18 in Minnesota for that).  Other conditions that might also trigger a violation might include mental or chemical disability of one party, or one party being in a position of authority over the other (camp counselor and camper, for instance).  Each state would have its own law regarding this, so consult the statute books in your local library to stay out of Joliet, Romeo. :)

Criminal Justice major here lol, I know all about those. In PA, its only statutory rape if:
1) One party is under 16 years old
2) The other party is 4 years+ older then complaintant
3) The two are not married

So if a 20 year old sleeps with a 16 year old, it isn't statutory rape, but if a 15 year old sleeps with a 19 year old, it is.

P.S. Just because it isn't statutory rape doesn't mean they can't nail you for corruption of a minor.

BTW, for all you "sheep lovers" out there, sexual intercourse with an animal is a misdeameanor of the second degree. :)

Had this same discussion with my next door neighbor... it made her angry.

In my opinion, the man that goes after a fifteen year old is probably normal. He's just exercising piss poor judgement by taking advantage of a person that lacks the experience that he or she has.

A pedophile is a different creature entirely, and a sick one at that. He doesn't see the woman. He sees the child.

Hell... even at forty+ I can appreciate the beauty of a young woman. The women that I thought were attractive when I was fifteen are still attractive today. Do I act on this? Of course not.
