No need for Opium, this is the second largest oil producing country in the Middle East.  There will be plenty of support to rebuild this country after the war.  Besides, I don’t remember seeing the cities captured so far as being leveled to the ground.  Strangely, citizens still have roofs over their heads.  I think the coalition troops are not trying hard enough.  They need to at least lob a grenade or two in every house they pass just to keep up appearances.  :p

Take a look on the recent Bush's budget proposal which did not contain any aid for Afghanistan? I believe some of his political opponents rushed to correct that oversight but it is an indication of what he thinks - or doesn't - and his motivations.

Afghanistan was in ruins long before 9/11, economically and morally. The US will no doubt pump billions into that country to give those folks a better life. Give people a helping hand and you'd think they'd be grateful, right?

However, why the hell is it our responsibility? The routing of the Taliban was not to liberate Afghanistan but to eliminate a threat that had demostrated the desire and will to attack us.

We don't have to make them love us to prevent them from attacking us. We could bomb them into oblivion and justly so. Fortunately for them, we aren't like "them".

America has troops in afghanistan still. they providing security for pres of afghanistan and his leaders. they hunting for al qaeda and enemy warlords and trying to help people. many people promise money to afghanistan America is sending money there its other countries that are lagging on money. what is point of cartoon? if its trying to show American actions its a lie.

And it is a promise we will no doubt keep. But we were never  obligated to make such a promise imo.
