HTC - how bout a chat room......
« on: October 20, 2000, 10:05:00 PM »
I know what you're thinking, you're thinking "We don't need a chat room, that's what ch 1 is for".

Aye, but what about us poor souls that sit in front of a PC all day at work and are forced to keep hitting the refresh button on the forums.  Lately I've even gone as far as logging into the wwiionline HQ chat room, but those guys in there are the most boring bunch on the planet.  How bout it HTC?  Just a simple 3rd party chat prog linked from the main page.  Or......if ya can manage it without too much effort......a chat room that links in with the text buffer of the main arena.....now that would be seriously cool.

Swoop you already have them. Move to the map room or tower, there is a room only channel #3.

We've looked into it as a means to lighten some traffic off of the message board.  Part of the problem is that we have a lot of people who hang out here who aren't even customers.  Both of the above detract from the basic utility of the message board as an interface between developer and players.

Erm......I dont think I made myself clear.

Iculus, I'd love to but it wouldnt make any difference.....WinNT thats locked down so tight I cant even get ICQ to install.

HiTech, see the above reply.  Kinda hard to move to the map room when the game isnt running cos it aint on the system.  Um.....was that too sarky?  No offense meant anyway.

Pyro, erm.....sorry mate, I'm feeling a little hard of thinking this morning.  Does that mean you are thinking about it or decided against it?

Anyway, it was just a thought.......I dont care anymore cos it's the weekend  YAAAAY!!!!!

Chat room? No prob. Just grab a copy of RogerWilco, a mic, and head off to the Aces High Room that RogerWilco set up just for us. It's empty 99 times out of 100, I've cheated and used it while in flight to talk to other pilots. "What the IP?" they ask and I give 'em the numbers in the RW window. No lagging on my already toasted connect.

I like the idea of a real IRC chat room

I'm an IRCop on the IRCx.com chat network.  The servers are at irc1.ircx.com, irc2.ircx.com, and irc3.ircx.com, ports 6667 and 7000.  We'll even give ya the code you need to put a java applet on a webpage to send people in, and you can register your channels too.  The website is  www.ircx.com

Be a great place for like a "Creator's Cornor" question and answer session, and most IRC clients can log it so it can be posted on the boards here or on a web page
