Gun Question...Somthing I saw on TV
« on: April 05, 2003, 06:43:47 PM »
I'm watching Fox News and I see the American APC's rolling through Baghdad, with their 50 cal. Guns blazing.

One thing I noticed, and was wondering about:

The gun operator keeps pulling back on a handle on the right side of the gun.

3 second burst...pull the handle.

5 second burst...pull the handle

1 second burst....pull handle...

What the hell does that thing do? I'm guessing it chambers the next round, but why would you need to do that with a Machine Gun.

Oh, funniest thing I saw today, a 155mm with this painted on the barrel "$ Shot".

Ma duece LOVES to fire when dripping oil. When in a sandy environment you can't lube it up like that. Firing it dry tends to jam it when gritty.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Maybe the headspace and timing was not set properly? I've never seen a properly set up .50 have so many malfunctions.

Thats a jam??

Geez, that does not look like a quality weapon if it jammed 3 times in the span of 15 seconds!

I guess it REALLY does not like sand.

Some of the footage I saw looked like they guy was test firing. He fired a couple rounds, chambered another, fired a couple more. Then fired a couple from his m16.

Is this what your talking about?

looked like a m2 being maintained by a cook or some such in a desert. you get real tired and wont clean **** after a while if they dont make you . was a big big problem in nam.

you pull the handle on a m2 you are chambering or clearing never heard of any kind of test like that.
