Spitfire V is the more maneuverable of the two and also slower than the Mk IX.  The Spitfire V also has less firepower than the Spitfire Mk IX with only .303 caliber machine guns and 20mm Hispano cannons.  The Spitfire Mk IX is faster, not as maneuverable than the V model (but still pretty darn nimble) and has a better weapons package.  You can either load .303 caliber machine guns in addition to the 2x 20mm cannons or load up .50 caliber machine guns instead of the .303s.

In my opinion, out of the two, the Spitfire V is the more enjoyable one to fly.

Id chose a Spit 9..Not many planes stick around in a fight so at least i might have a chance to catch em.

spit 5 is good if you need manouverability but if you want a higher firepower with a pretty good manouverability and higher speed go for the spit 9

if firepower and manvourability are all that matter to you i suggest a hurri2c

if firepower and speed are all that matter then i suggest you try the mosquito...hard to beat 4x20mm hispano AND 4x .303 brownings

One important practical difference in the MA is that the V can easily whip a N1K2 in a turnfight but with a IX it is a closer battle.

Can't say I agree.  I think the Spit V vs. N1K is a dead heat, depends who has the lightest configuration at the time and who had more E to start with.  The N1K can beat the Spit IX fairly handily, but again, I think the Spit's in general have better altitude performance and hold E better.

Interesting how a lot of the best Spit pilots actually fly the Spit V.  They know how to extract and maintain the energy they need and the extra power of the Spit IX is not as big a factor.  I found I actually made that graduation from Spit IX to Spit V when I flew it.  Barely missed the extra power since I improve my technique to make better use of what I had.

Its all about the Pilot..But in my opinion ive had problems killing nikis with a Spit 9 low and slow.  I think Spit 5 would do better now easily but better.

If I am going to be over 15K I will take a SpitIX. (mountain climbing  Trinity).
Under 15K I take a spitV.
SpitIX is vastly superior to the V at altitude.
SpitV is a true knife fighter and does its best work at lower altitudes.
And as for N1K's,  well I hate'em, but hate'em a little less when I am in a SpittyV.
Now the hog....Aye! Thats the rub Mate!
Just my opinion of course.
Cheers,

Zero/Zekes are probably the best pure turn fighters in the game and probably the best, if not one of the best stall fighters in AH too.

Spit V feels like as if you are tossing around with Honda Civic Type-R around the Laguna Seca.

God made N1K2s especially for Spit V pilots.

In a co-E turnfight between two equally-skilled pilots, the Spit V easily outturns the N1K.
