F1 needs to get rid of "wings" and get back to real racing. and nascar needs to find out what "rain tires" are for.

They tried to develop rain tires for NASCAR cars but the cars are too heavy and go too fast.  Or at least that's what either Daryl Waltrip or Benny Parsons said during a rain delay last year.  That's why I also watch the ALMS races - fendered race cars running rain or shine!

I think the main reason winston cup doesn't run in the rain is that nascar understands that the fans are an integral part of the sport. Making them stand out in the rain would hurt revenue big time. nascar prolly pulls 2 times the fans of any other racing sport in the world except maybe the indy 500. All other cart races are ghost towns.

It'd been a few years since I'd been to talladega on a race weekend. Saturday I was stunned at the number of people down there. There had to have been 200,000 people there. They had the 6 lane highway as a one way street and it was bumper to bumper traffic. nascar is growing leaps and bounds mainly because the guys running it understand what the fans want, namely good close competitive racing. The commercials are even entertaining to watch. ;)

I think the real rise of NASCAR goes to two factors (a) you can watch the whole race from your seat, unlike the road races where the track bends and curves and your view is obstructed; and (b) RJ Reynolds threw big revenue money at the sport as part of its marketing campaign years ago, and all that money gave the teams a chance to build great cars.  With RJ Reynolds pulling out in the next year or so, it'll be interesting to see if NASCAR can maintain its prominence in the American racing scene or if series like ALMS, Trans-Am, IRL, and CART will begin to ascend as NASCAR slides.

Personally, I think ALMS and Trans-Am are better products.

I was there for the 500. Of course it seemed that 95% of the Drunks there (thats 95/99 people at the race) were really depressed that the dangerous fun all happened in the 4th lap. Otherwise im mad that Jr. won. I hate the boy. Hes a redneck just like his dear old dad. No I dont like Gordon either he is a stuckup clean-shaven boy. I will stick with the old Guard. The Mark Martins and Dale Jarrets.

Didn’t go to the race, but watched the whole thing. It may have been the best race I’ve seen, and glad I was able to see it unfold. TV is good for that. It’s impossible to see it all at the track but when 40+ cars come by at race speed that first few laps, there is nothing like it.

Oh, and I stopped being a fan of Mark Martin a few years ago. He whines more than AH players.

Oh and HBlair are you going to the Rolex Series race. The Barber 250. I know I'm going I live near by at the Grant's Mill exit on 459. I got a friend whose dad works there. He has got us tickets and full-access passes for the race. It is going to be great. Cant wait till the motorcycle race in September.

Yes and it was only the first few laps with 40+ this time.

Whats wrong with being a redneck?  You are just un-learn-ed in our ways.

Big-E was the best, and Little-E isn't far behind.

When he wins somewhere besides Talledega maybe we can talk, othewise...His father was good but a redneck. I dont mind the guy who goes out with his buddies and shoots Canadian Geese off the back of his bass boat on sunday morning with a six pack already down and another coming over from his buddy's boat. (I mean they are Canadian right?) I just don't like the type who cant talk. They dont care for being educated or anything of the sort.

Hobo-

Good? the BEST.  And he spoke just fine.  I really enjoyed how he snubbed the national media.  WTG DALE.

By definition, then you will have to include me as a redneck.  But, I DO mind idiots that take a bottle (or any other drug) with them while hunting or shooting...BTW that is against the law in any state the USAF has taken me.  Canadian geese hate Canada, if they didn't, I wouldn't see so many of them in NC, MS, AL, and TX:D

In the early 80's my father wrote an insurance policy for some guy that had tickets adn pit passes for the Talledega 500 weekend races.  We only got them for 3 years, but they were real good years.  The fourth year, we bought tickets for the infield (probably 1984) and I think they wanted $20.  I can remember my cousin complaining that about the price..LOL.  What do they cost now? $90?  I have been to Charlotte, Rockingham and of course Talledega and the latter was the best experience for me.  NASCAR fans need to go!
