Fly-by sounds, when?
« on: October 22, 2000, 01:51:00 AM »
I have a whole directory of very nice fly-by wavs reay to be implemented into AH.  Does anyone know when or IF AH will implement airplane fly-by sounds?  Would be *very* nice to have a different fly-by wav for each aircraft.

Fly by's by the tower then I hope?

I hope that they don't do it when in the air; too cheezy Hollywood cartoonish unrealistic bs  .

Not 'in-cockpit' fly-by sounds PLEASE!

In tower, or ground vehicle sounds would be nice - would be good to be able to hear a plane before you saw it.

Dear Gawds NO!

For ground vehicles, sure. Same goes for the tower, but NOT in flight! Please!

In a plane I don't want to hear that stuff.  But in the tower, in a chute, in a vehicle, it would be really cool to hear engine and gun sounds from acks, vehicles, and planes.  It's the kind of thing that is standard equipment for most games.

Yeah, hanging in my chute (I spend a lot of time doing that for some reason) it'd be great if I could hear the sounds of the nearby dogfight, the Niki dweeb strafing me, etc.

Hmmmm.

Ok, you want total realism?  Well when the engine has quit and your floating down for a ditch......you can definately hear sounds from outside the aircraft.  I know, I've done it.  Yes, IRL.  You can hear another plane buzzing past without any probs at all.

Now the problem with this in Aces High is people can just turn engine volume down and outside volume up.  Remedy, make outside volume always equal to engine volume but with outside volume set a little low.  You want to hear planes from the cockpit?  Turn your engine sound up.....wassat you say?  You cant hear cos of the engine noise?  Well done, now you're in total realism.

ARGHH!!! People think about what you are saying! You want TOTAL realism but you don't want to ehar fly-by's in your cockpit!?

However, you can hear bullets buzzing by your airplane!?? LOL! Straight out of Janes WW2 Fighters.

I like the idea, just turn the dang fly-by sounds down if you don't want to hear them, or better yet, erase them from the sounds directory.

Finally, I am not talking about hearing a plane fly-by 1 click away, I am talking about FLY-BY's.  You know when they are like 50 yards or less.  Now that would be possible I think.

It's all about ambience. Makes the sim that much better.  Not that we would ever see this implemented though. Too bad cause HT simulates bullets missing your plane but not fly-by's. Hmmmmmmm....
