Zig has tried to explain it to me a dozen times. I never get more then one unless I use bombs. I think I take down my share of ack in other ways.
It is awful fun to watch cave or zig do it though..sort of like a cobra swaying...

SOB is right - all it takes is a little practice and the AAA can go down. Once down, the field is ripe for all sorts of grand carnage.

AAA is key to taking a field and also to vulching. Kill the AAA and it is a green light to then strafe and close-attack the hard targets.

As I see it, the order of import at a field is VH first so no more AAA can spawn, then the AAA, then everything else.

But it is easy once you know how and essential. The 48th is getting pretty proficient at Ack-killing and we don't hesitate to do it.

Strafe acks? In a Yak-9U? Are you kidding?

Two reasons:

a) not enough ammo
b) I die every single time

Frankly, I would spend time offline or in the TA practicing JABO and straffing, if I was not getting killed every single time, and having to take more than 5 minutes every time to fly back to an enemy field. I get very frustrated at having to spend a LOT more time flying to the target than practicing.

I tried to play with the offline settings, but I can't find how to turn down damage from ack. Is there any way to do that?  All settings I could find about damage didn't have any effect on my plane's vulnerability.

It's pretty easy to strafe acks in any plane.  Just make sure you have a lot of energy.  Jink on the way in, open up and give the AA a burst, then jink away.  Don't watch to see where your shells land, get out of there before the gun can train on you.  Practice offline if you have trouble scoring hits.

If you are flying a plane with wimpy guns or a weak airframe, practice in a manly plane like a P-47D or Typhoon or Corsair, so you won't die as much while learning to strafe.  Once you can kill acks with impunity in those planes, you will be good enough to do it in a wimpy plane.  Even a powder puff like the Bf 109G-2 can take out the acks and hangar at a vehicle field if you know what you are doing.

Zig and I decided to strafe some ack in our Yaks tonight.  Our first passes went well.  It looked like Zig's second pass was a little sloppy, and he lost his radiator (went on to ditch in friendly territory).  I made 3 more runs.  There were only 2 guns left, the far northwest on the main base and the vehicle ack.  I got sloppy when I attacked the one on the main base and it got me.

One thing to remember when straffing ack.  Each bird requires similar, but different control inputs to do it successfully (engine torque etc) and you will more than likely die several times learning the best way to handle a particular kite for ackstrafing.
Some can make 3 passes (getting 5-6 guns) before grabbing for alt to start again.  Others can only make 1 pass (get shot up on second pass).

Pongo catch me in the arena and we can go to the TA and you can ride with me and I'll show ya how.  Or catch me in the MA when we're launching a strike

Well, since I am having connection problems on my end here & I can't let go... I decided to Specialise in Air/Ground Missions in Fighters... I now fly 95% of the Time in the Typhoon (It Rocks since 1.4 !)...

My usual Run is :

2K eggs on VH
Vh ack with Gns
3/4 acks on the field with Guns as well.  the trick is to stay VERY FAST & not go for a tracking shot on the ack, but a passing shot...

Sometimes, luck is not on my side though, but I keep on training on it...
