Units in Iraq
« on: April 14, 2003, 01:09:36 AM »
Can anyone give me the run down on which divisions were on the field in Iraq up to the fall of Badhdad?

Is this right?

Third Inf, First Marine, 101st, 82nd Airborne and the 173rd Airborne Brigade up north?

Is the 101st and 82nd at full strength? Isn't one brigade stationed in Afghanistan?

Ranger question. Are they considered a brigade or a number of independent battalion size units?

UK troops in the south.
The only one I'm sure of is the 1th Armored.
Are the Marines, Para divisional or brigade size units?

http://www.operations.mod.uk/telic/forces.htm for a list of british forces, 7th Armoured brigade "Desert Rats" is the same brigade that kicked Rommel's arse in WWII :)
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

At least part of the 4th Marine Division is there too.  I've been seeing reports on the news from reporters with the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marines.  I don't think it's the whole 23rd Marine Regiment, since I never heard of Weapons 1/23 here in Austin getting called up.  It may only be one reserve company working with the 1st Marine Division.

I'm quite sure they're using SI / metric units.
