Building new comp for ah...tips pls.

There is a very well known problem with the nforce based MB's...you may need to add a PCI usb 2.0 card to run your game controllers. The Nforce usb controllers doesnt play nice with the usb controllers in some game controllers. I personally use MSI boards. If you dont want to get into heavy O/Cing I find the MSI boards rock solid. I currently have the KT4V running DDR 333 samsung memory with the timings cranked  and an XP200. At the moment MSI has the best KT4 based AMD motherboards. The Via usb controller is much more stable than the Nforce one ( at the moment) and is only a hair slower, you would never see the difference in speed. The main reason I stayed with the Via chipset is....Via main business is MB chipsets, it is their livelyhood, Nvidia is GPU's.....I have a feeling Via will solve any problems FASTER and more reliably than Nvidia ever will. Just my opinion. Either way, sounds like you will have a great machine for AH2

I have not heard about any issues with the Nforce2 chipset and USB controllers. Maybe I need to do some digging but going on personal experience I will not have another Via chipset based board till they show something better than what I have used recently.

My neighbor went through 3 Via based boards before getting an Nforce2 based and it handles everything nicely. I like using MSI boards on systems due to stability for non-overclocking people. In fact I built three in the last month that all used MSI boards and they were basically all for home use. MSI is one of the best at having integrated stuff on their boards as well. I personally don't use them because I like the way ASUS handles things for higher end components. I will do some research and see what I can find for Nforce2 USB issues; that will be some interesting reading.

Not everyone has problems with the Nforce boards. Dont get me wrong...THEY ARE GOOD BOARDS!! I personally have had no problems with the Via based boards from the 266a chipset through to the 400. The problem with the Nforce boards shows up when using certain brands of game controllers ( Nvidia says it isnt their usb controller and the peripheral manufacturer says it isnt their usb controller:rolleyes: ) is easily fixed by using a pci usb card. Simple but has caused massive headaches until the problem was solved! If you dont want to push the FSB of the processor you cant beat the MSI boards. If you want to seriously get into O/Cing look at Epox and Abit  Nforce based boards. Really it all boils down to personal preferance and what onboard features you want/require, and price  that should dictate the MB manufacturer. I dont think you will go wrong with any of the major manufactures. I was just stating MY preference and the reasons for them, and letting people know that if they are having USB game controller problems to try an add in pci usb card for the Nforce boards, as this remedies the issues.
Good luck with your machine, and you cant go wrong with either a KT4 or Nforce board from a good manufacturer, and if you still cant decide pick the board with the coolest colour pcb!!:D ( That is one of my pet peaves with Asus..that damn beige just looks soooooo dated!!!! LOL)

Color means nothing to me. That is why my wife tells me what colors to paint things. Although my new case is going to be Dupont Imron 5000 Dark Blue Metallic for the base coat.

$$$$$ Stuff but I got it for free from a customers work order when we had about a pint left over from the job.

A little hint: If you drop the DVD-rom and CD-burner you could get a DVD-burner for the same price that does everything. ;)
