Yes, a very good idea indeed, but it should be a lot of codework until its useable.
When u claculate the distance to target when the kill is awarded - then its most of the time when the pilot bails or crashes. by that time u already knew that he was going down and u are grabbing, extending or whatever.
So if the range is calculated at that time - u will have a lot of 2k+ kills

When the code is implemented that the range is calculated when u cause the final (ultimate?) damage - then u could also implement a better way of kill-awardment that has already been discussed.
I think its just too difficult to implement.
The only thing that comes close would be to award the kill (calc range) when the last shot is fired and hit. But imagine 5 countrymates diving after a con u just shot down only to get the kill awarded

Would be difficult i think. But somthink that would be possible and that would make sense is that some good pilots try to log ranges when they shoot under different conditions (deflection, straight on 6, or sneaking up behind) and post it somewhere.
At least i could use the data...
