Media cards, x-rays, and airport security
« on: April 16, 2003, 07:59:27 PM »
Quick question about multimedia cards... the ones used for digital cameras and other equipment.

Sending one of these cards through a machine with x-ray equipment won't damage the card or its data will it?  Something magnetic I'm sure would screw it.  Metal detectors?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

For electronic magnetic based media, the most dangerous part of the securtiy process is the electric motors that run the conveyor belt.  As long as you don't rest your media on top of the motor (which puts out a measurable magnetic field) you should be fine.

I always just tell them I have it, and they usually just look at it and pass it over.

I like them security checks, they make us pull our notebooks out of our bags now. Dunno why but I think its to see who's got the coolest notebook - anyway last week on the way up to Auckland I had to pull out my Sony Vaio R505... I passed with a high on the cool rating.

Anyway, on the way back... "do you have a notebook in your bag sir?" ... "yeah, both bags". One Asus L1400 AND a Sony Vaio R505 - god I was cool   those security guys almost asked from my autograph :D

You have a very strange definition of cool in New Zealand.

On the way back from the AH con last year Dallas airport security asked me who won the 2v2s.......
