Adding Punch To The Japanese Planeset.
« on: April 16, 2003, 09:05:49 PM »
One of the Big Shortcomings in the Japanese Planeset is the lack of a decent Jabo'capable plane that can even begine to compeat with the Allies. Their are 4 Decent rides 1 for the Midwar perioud, and 3 for the late war time frame, all of wich are Great rides with a decent Bombload.

 P1Y1:

Over One Thousand of these Speady, handy and well protected Bombers were produced and used in the last year of the War. Capable of 340 mph (faster than the Ki 67), they could cary two 500KG bomb's internaily, or an 800KG Torpedo. They had either two 20mm Type 99 MK I cannon's (one for and one aft) for defense or a pair of Type 2, 13mm MG's in the rear and one 20mm Type 99 Cannon in the front. Designed with Dive bombing in mind This Plane would realy be sweat for puting a usable load on target, equiped with Self sealing fuel tanks and some aromor plate, it would also prove to be a bit more surviable than some other Japanese types.

 Ki 102:

This is a very sweat ride, Designed as a ground suport plane, it incorperates effective armor protection, selfsealing tanks, good preformance and handeling with Great Firepower to be posably the best of all the candates. Armed with a 57mm cannon and two 20mm Ho-5 cannons firing forward, and one flexable 12.7mm Ho-103 firing rearward, and capable of packing two 250KG bomb's, at 360mph.

 B7A:

The Zenith of Japanese Carier Strike plane design, and considered to be one of the Finest examples of it's type amongst all the countries involved during the war, the Grace is a very capable plane. 352 mph, two 20mm Type 99 MK II cannon's fixed firing forward, one dorsal 13mm Type 2 MG firing rearward, and one 800kg torpedo, or up to 800kg's of bomb's. All this with Handeling that was likend to that of the Zero! While it only did work up flights off CV's and was not used in an operation off a Japanese CV, it was used in combat from land bases.

Any of the above three planes would be usable in the MA, and usable in the CT for late war plane set's in the PAC.

 Ki-45:

Entering service in October of 42, this plane would add a lot to early war Japanese Jabo capabality, even the early models had fuel tank protection,Fitted with a Variety of gun packages, one of the most frequently used configurations was one 37mm Ho-203 and two 20mm Ho-5 canons firing forward, with a 7.92mm Type 98 on a rear firing flexable mount,  two 250 kg bomb's could also be caried.Best spead around 340 mph.

Yes, I'd like to see Frances myself.

Never heard of this one.  Got some pics and info on numbers produced?

Great plane, but would you rather have Jill and Judy first?

I'd like to have the Nick as well.  Very common and useful plane.

i agree brady, in CT its hard to do anything to enemy bases with the current planeset if you are flying as japanese.  Only decent jabo/attack plane is the b5n imo, because of the 3x 250kg bomb load.  D3a has too light bomb load, and i dont like the ki67 because its a bomber.

The problem is that the US aircraft are all carrying 2000lbs + rockets, when in fact that was a rare loadout.  Most US strike missions were done with 500lb bombs.

The freely available 1000lb bombs distorts the relative strike capability beyond what it already was.

are the american a/c loadouts wrong? because all the sources i've read for the 51 state that it could carry 2 bombs (500's or 1k's) OR the rockets? here it has both

I know the P47 load out is not what it should be, this has been show time and time again but HTC hasent done anything about it, I am not to shure exactly what it is that is wrong I think it is the Rocket Bomb combo, that they should not be able to cary both or somthing like that.

I realy Think the Judy would be best since it would fit in more set up's It was in service through most of the war and was very fast for it's type. But I would rather have the Grace over the Jill anyday, it is way more capable.

 Ki-102:

238 were produced before the war ended, they were issued to the 28th and 45th senties,27th Dokurisitsu ai Shijugo Chutai. They were in action over Okinawa, and Over the Home islands.

Nice-looking ride.  Who made it?  Was it Mitsubishi?  It kinda looks like a Dinah on steroids, moreso than a Nick or Irving.

I'd love to have the Ki-43, Ki-44, and Ki-45.

Preferably the Ki-44 armed with 2 20mm and 2 12.7mm.

I'd also like the Ki-100, which was a radial engined Ki-61 that was supposedly the best IJA plane that saw action.

Ya eveuntialy, but in the short term I would cross the Ki43 off the list.

The ki 44, is a cool ride but I would much rather have a Ki 84 in the short term. Acording to my book Nakajima Ki-44 "Shoki", by Buseschel, No Ki 44's were made with 4 20mm Canons, and only one (1) with two 20mm and two 12.7mm gun's.

 The Ki-44 IIC:
   427 made, four 12.7mm

  The Ki-44 IIb:
    394, two 12.7mm and two 40mm

Before that their are 300 plus with 7.7mm and 12.7mm the IIa.

The Ki 100 is often refered to as such but this had more to with reliabality of it's engine I think than anything else, the ki 84 was the beter fighter when in good working order.
