The bottom line is THE MAJORITY do not agree with the demonstrators.
Who are they? I would expect that
a majority of Iraqis want a democracy,
just as the majority of Iranians want
their parliament to be sovereign. If
by they you mean those who want
there to be a theocracy want a
theocracy you are probably right
Basically we need to stand as
guarantors that the Iraqis will have a
free and fair democracy and only
intervene if this is destroyed. This
means allowing them to vote for
people we don't like. If the West
interferes in the process (Iran, 1953
comes to mind), then democracy
won't become established in the
region as it will be seen as just a tool
by which the West can impose its will
by the back door. That would be a
bad thing.
