Asked grandfather this question but got a "Hmmmmm" from him....

but why did they paint the "D" model in dark navy with Yellow on the cowl and tips and tail?

Anyone know the specifics on that?

going to be detailing a Corsair soon, and want some pic ideas...any of you suggest anything?

here is my F4U its a R/C plane! Korean era F4u-5 flown off the franklin roosevelt by the VF-14 Tophatters, they painted the tail cone ,prop hub ,vertical stab tip and wing tips yellow! The only reason I know they painted the surfaces yellow was just for there own markings like the tuskagee airman had red tails
