TM F-16 Need Help
« on: April 12, 2003, 12:14:12 PM »
I have the TM F-16 FLCS / F-16 TQS / RCS Rudders.

I Lost my throttle and when I go to my Control and Command Center v1.55 [F-3] and do a key test I dont see any input however all other buttons work

I'm about ready to order the digital conversion from stickworks but dont want to if the throttle is porked.

Does any one know how I can just test the throttle ...

Any ideas / suggestions?

Sounds like your throttle's Potentiometer may have a bad wire(s) or the pot it's self could be bad, or need cleaning. I suppose  it could be the chip in your TQS going bad also.

If I remember right the TQS throttle only has one potentiometer, And I think it's the same type as the two in the FLCS.

If needed you still can order replacement parts from Thustmaster.

http://us.thrustmaster.com/support/repairkit/index.php3

Flightstick Potentiometer/Switch Kit  Includes 2 potentiometers - 2 4 way switches $9.99

p.s.  The digital conversion from stickworks is worth every penny.

Good luck

Thanks for the advice ... I'll try taking it apart and cleaning it first.

I had trouble with my own CH throttle and recently my pedals also, the inputs started to go really spiky and then packed up altogether. In my case it wasn't the pots at fault or button switches but the  small wires on the  loom breaking where it gets moved about so often.

Check to see if all the wiring is still connected, if necessay you may need to use an ohm meter to check continuity in the wiring, as well as cleaning the pots with contact cleaner.

Question for y'all

I took the TQS apart and didn't find any broken wires or anything like that.  I cleaned the pot with contact cleaner snd it seemed to work once in the stick set up but not in the game .. then it wouldn't show up after that.

I wondering if I pluged the cable from the pot into the mobo corectly or did I reverese it ... one side of the cable plug has a slot in it and I forgot which way it faces.

The other odd thing is that I cant get full throttle even if I hit the
"=    -" on the key board.

Also have my doubt about the 5-pin /PS2 connector to the F-16 FLCS if its working correctly ... it seems every time I touch it my computer frezzes.... can't tell if its the connector or the female part on the joystick thats going bad.  Anyway to test this????

HELP

If you were to install Bob's Digital chips you would not need to connected the 5-pin /PS2 connector to the F-16 FLCS. but you still need to have your throttle pot working. Is the wiper arms inside of the pot making contact with the round disc? If they are worn off they can't make contact and they will not work. Some times you can bend them down so they make contact again, But they will soon need to be replaced.  Do you have a Volt/Ohm meter you can check the pot with? It's just a variable resistor.  the resistance should go up, or down as you move the pot with the meter connected to it.

Check the cheap and easy things 1st before buying new parts.

Good luck
