Showing the world that Toronto is truly serious about stopping the spread of SARS is also a good idea. In Toronto the Good, breaking quarantine might get you a squeaky phone call from a health official with an invitation to crawl back into your basement. In Singapore, where 14 people have died from SARS as of yesterday, two fewer than Canada's total, the government is threatening jail terms for quarantine breakers. About 2,400 workers at a Singapore vegetable market are to be quarantined. China, after being in official denial about SARS for months, is now taking radical measures to stop the disease's spread. In Beijing, all primary and secondary schools are to close for two weeks.

All chorus: "Blame Can-na-da! Blame Can-na-da!"

doesn't really matter.. with attitudes like that of some guy on the street (passing through Toronto) on the news saying: "I need to travel through here often.. I'm not worried about the flu"

it only takes one love muffin to infect the world.
don't really think there's any way to contain this in today's world.

politicians, atheletes, businessmen, etc.. they're still gonna travel .. it's just a matter of time before everyone is exposed to this..

(looking for my lucky dice)

One person from Toronto who was ordered quaranteened(sp) because he was a carrier, decided to break it and go to a funeral...Then there was panic as they had to track down several hundred people who attended...North of Toronto where I grew up,in the town of Markham, there are lots of chinese people wandering around the streets wearing surgical masks looking like zombified Michael Jacksons.I think there are the only ones who have an idea of what we're dealing with.........Scary....It's like living in a Camus novel.

that's the thing.. people are going to be pissed..

not want to 'stay put' and not travel

not want to 'lose business', or 'games', etc..

It's going to spread because there will be at least one person somewhere who belives they are above the 'guidelines', rules, whatever.

Sars peaked in Toronto about 3 weeks ago at about 17 new cases a day, for the past 2 weeks we have had 3 or less per day. It was all related to one initial case from China. Now the cases that are "real" are usually heath care workers who quite often worked directly with SARS patients. Two cycles of the incubation period is 20 days so officially we are past the crisis point. The disease is going to be gone from here in less than a month unless we get a new arrival flying in who is not known to health officials.

The local health officials did these mass track downs of all people who potentially might have had an exposure to make sure they did not go to work etc and spread it. Most of them were purely precautionary.

For the WHO to come out now and say Toronto is a heath risk is just more political bull **** from a world organization. What they basically were saying is "Look China we did this to a western country as well as you so don't get upset at us." What makes it even more hypocritical is that Singapore (a major Asian aviation hub) did not get the same treatment and they have way more cases.

It's not because 1 may infect 100's and so on and so on. It's because the World hates Canada. Didn't you know that?

The thing originated in China ... and its Canda's fault?  Yup, you are correct.  We harbor terrorists AND the diseases that are out to kill Americans.

I don't think the Canadians have SARS at all- in fact most of the Canuks have runny noses, sniff alot and talk like their noses are plugged naturally. We should Nuke them anyway...just in case though.

So even Canadians use this spelling variant. This forum is the first place I've seen it used.

O Canda! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,

The True North strong and free!

From far and wide,

O Canda! We stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!

O Canda! we stand on guard for thee

O Canda, terre de nos aïeux,

Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux.

Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,

Il sait porter la croix.

Ton histoire est une épopée

Des plus brillants exploits.

Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,

Protégera nos foyers et nos droits
