GV enhancement - early warning
« on: April 07, 2003, 03:44:36 PM »
Howdy,

I'd like to suggest an enhancement for dealing with the problem of spawn camping.

When spawning in a GV, you should have a 5-10 second window of invisibility before you appear to other vehicles in the area.

In the current model, there is a delay of up to 5 seconds before vehicles around you appear on your FE, but you are visible during that entire time to them from the moment you spawned.  This makes an already difficult situation almost impossible.

If there was a 5-10 second window where your GV was not visible to other vehicles, you could get your bearings and be able to mount an effective battle.

In real life, there was no instant spawn with no SA, so this would be a step towards restoring realism.

I don't see the connection with realism arguments here. How about just "don't spawn to a camped spawnpoint"? ;)

Let me give you some advice, and its not meant in any way as an attack on your capability as a GV driver. I know from doing it my self, that if you spanwn on a camped spawn point, you will surely die with in a 95 percent death rate. Occationally we have one that slips by, hehe. But for the most part, you could be there driving through for 30 seconds, we are still gonna getcha. Thats the risk you take when you span to an enemy base. I look at it as regular fighter cap on a base, onlly in GV's.

Grab a few friends, start a small mission at that spawn point (so you all spawn together)

I have no problem with campers.  I camp.  I enjoy it.  I also love the challenge of fighting the campers, and cleaning them out.  But the original post is correct--there is a delay between spawning and being able to see what's around you.  That needs to be fixed, in my opinion.

See you at the spawn point, future victims...

I quite like this idea............but would add

1) the period is longer than 5 - 10 seconds more like 20 to 30 seconds.

2)whilst the spawner is invisible he is blind to other players also.

3)whilst the spawner is invisible his ordinance is disabled.

another option/addition to this is to randomise the spawn point more. We can see this occurs now but if the GV could spawn anywhere in the tile the spawn point is placed then it may make camping a little more challenging.

I agree that more randomization of location would be a good thing.  Don't you think that  randomization of heading would also help?

Better than just randomization of the spawn point, calculate them as a point 5000 yards away (closer to your starting field) from the nearest ground enemy to your starting field. If no ground enemies are present in the "path" between your starting field and the destination point, the the spawn is just the destination (fixed point).

So, if there are enemy ground forces near your field, and intersecting the path to your desired spawn point, you will spawn near your base instead of near the enemy field, just in front of the enemy ground forces, but far enough to have time to maneouver and engange.

I think spawns should move with losses and gains, as you gvs move toward enemy fields new gvs spawn closer and closer.
As you push enemy gvs back with kills spawn gets further and further away.

I think spawns should be kept the way they are but maybe add a lot more cover of some kind that actually protects the area.
After all we wont see changes to AH until AH2 so why hold off on the request?
Lets not bother with randomising something. Lets just add forests where you can actually hide. We can spawn in those. :)

the spawns in tank city are too close to each other, it only takes a few secs to get into a vulching position.

They should be more apart with maybe a hill between spawn points.

HiTech needs to hear these now, so they can be implimented without having to edit too much existing code.

(From what I understand) There will be solid treese and small hills and such in the AH2 Terrain engine.

This idea is stupid, as it might dissuade spawn camping, thereby depriving me the chance to drive a plane in there and jabo the campers. Dyin with 30 kills on your tank smarts...  don't ask me how i know   ;)
