It was a legitimate attack on a legitimate military target.
Assasination insinuates sneaking around.  THe US attacked a valid military target out in the open!

Do tell dude.  I know he was flyin a stipped down buff and it just blew up but I'd like to hear details!

I had the opportunity to meet Rex Barber a few years ago and I know have his autograph on the inside of my flight jacket(along with about 30 others). Rex died about two years ago in Oregon.

they were trying to blow up V-2 and V-3 sites  (V-3 was a big primitive rail-gun) with radio controlled B24s loaded with explosives. Joe and another guy were flying one such B24 and were supposed to bail out over England, upon which the plane would be radio-controlled from an accompanying bomber to the target. Unfortunately, it blew up prematurely,  killing them.
