Ok guys help me out :)..........

I have a system which is showing its age but has always been upgraded as i go.This is present stuff:

Abit KA7A-RAID mobo
Athlon T-bird 900 running at 1 gig (no extra cooling needed)
40 Gig Fujistsu 7200rpm 100ATA Hard drive
Radeon 8500LE 64MB graphics card(dx8 card).
512MB 100Hz memory
Sounblaster live!
liteon Cdrw 52x24x48 Cd burner
48xDVD drive
Sony TFT 15" monitor (just bought it and it looks lovely :))

so all im looking to change is my case, motherboard, CPU and memory.
Im gonna aim for a 2.4 GIG CPU or equivalent and i want the fastest memory i can get for this chip to support and so a half decent mobo is a must.I dont want quite such a complicated mobo as the KA7A though as it is a highly tweakable mobo and requires too much updating of drivers for my liking to be honest.

So could you guys recommend a CPU and MOBO and MEMORY combination that covers all these points? Go for cheap as you can find but keeping the idea of speed in there for internal FSB etc.
Id like a mobo that runs nicely with my 100ATA HD but is ready for the next gen of HD's running at 133ATA etc.Id like to make sure i get the fastest memory i can with the largest transfer rates of data to and from the CPU as it can support.Basically I want the Video card to become the next bottleneck so i can justify buying a big ol 9800 Radeon LOL :)

If you want to stick with AMD, right now the nForce 2 chipset is what you want on a board.  (Especially if you don't like updating drivers all the time.)  The nForce 2 is the fastest, most feature rich, and most stable consumer level AMD supporting chipset out there.

If you want to go Intel, I'd probably wait for i865 (Springdale) boards to hit the shelves.

Hazed -

Look at my post "looking to upgrade" a few posts down.

Pfunk and I had a LENGTHY discussion on upgrading as I am looking to do EXACTLY the same thing you are.

Thanks again PFUNK!!  Gonna be ordering my stuff on Monday :D!!
