Planetside - anyone playing?
« Reply #75 on: May 01, 2003, 09:24:26 PM »
I downloaded, installed, and tried to play wioth my FP name and password - said there was no PS account...

Ok - so it makes be "apply" tro get into beta and I send my DxDiag (only have 256 RAM, not 512 RAM... but its DDR - I doner if that will make a difference...

Anyway - I havent gotten anything else from them... 24 hours now... kinda making me mad.

Any tips?  I would assume they wouldnt even look at the DxDiag for an open beta... and I didnt get anything saying I didnt meet the requirements... but I still cant get in as far as I know.

What annoys me is that the servers are always down in the US off-peak hours during the week - i.e. European prime-time. I'll have to wait until the weekend to play.

The memory leak thing explains alot. I hadn't done a HD defrag for over 12 months and the game get crashing when the action got heavy. So I defragged my HD (which took about 16 hours!!!) and the game hasn't crashed since. I hope I don't have to defrag my HD again - it's a pain in the arse to do.

I don't know what to suggest Saurdaukar. Maybe there is a post on their boards that might help?

BTW - I didn't realise they have an AH-voice type programme in there, integrated in the game. That is so cool!

It's not really all that intergrated into the game.  If you want to use it, someone has to host it and then everyone else is then able to join on the voice server.  Finally got a chance to see it in action early this morning before the servers went down.  The voice quality wasn't as good as AH voice but then that could be because whoever was hosting it might not have had enough resources to properly do so.  The voice program they use is called TeamSound.

Aaah. So it's like how AH utlilized Roger Wilco in the old days. Oh well, hopefully they can develop something like AHVoice.

Its a squad thing. I dont know if they plan to expand it though.

I hope they do.

It's official. I'm pissed off. The game is unplayable as of now. The 10-minutes-then-boot crap is annoying. It's release is scheduled for the 19th of May?!

Maybe its time to send in an : Bug Report?

Ok - played for a little while last night - game crahsed after 15 minutes and I went to bed.

Looks good - controls feel "mushy" and I have no clue what Im doing - tried clicking "instant action" and it said none available.

The sanctuary is odd - cool to buy stuff and everything, but where do I "train?"

Not for me it hasn't.  Every patch they've released so far has made the game run better on my machine and I'm using a machine that is below their minimum requirements.  The only time I had problems running the game was when the the game would crash using the 43.xx Detonator drivers but now that's fixed.

They haven't added the offline training yet but you can go into the VR shooting gallery in your Sanctuary and try out the various weapons and vehicles without any costs.

Ditto Oct  :D Got fed up yesterday so went and bought another 512mb today. I really can't believe the difference such a relativily small cost upgrade has made. Glad I did.
