Who says a lanc is tough to down?

Took one out with one ping today.  I have some excellent footage of it  Mighty1 can back the story up(almost feel guilty bud).

It was part of a 4 kill sortie that was a kick.  Bounced one F4u.. got another while fixated and found that sneaky C47 at A9.  Ya just have to call it a night after a sortie like that

I agree.  It seems pretty easy to kill or be killed in one.  I have no idea what they were like historically.......

I have no doubt you did it, but I've flown about twenty missions in them since Saturday and I've found them able to take some punishment. I've landed with only two engines working and only one gear down.

I've also killed about half the bandits that have tried to take me out

OTOH, if the A-H crew would like to make it a bit, I won't complain!

Depends on where you strike it,  i've dumped 20-30 30mm into one before it went to pieces , course I was working the engines after killing the gun positions (wanted to extend the pleasure   ) , in 4xcannon bird i find  top/bottom attacks require 50 rounds at least or as much as 100 to explode it, from 6 position working on one wing 30-50 cannon does great.  I personally feel that its a tough bird ,,,,but no competition for any plane intend on killing it , seen zeros kill em without much problem.

I have a good film where I'm trying to land a Lanc that took an entire Spit's ammo load (no kiddin) and part of an La5's load. Only lost engine, few fuel tanks and both elevators damaged severely. I've taken some unbelievable damage in the Lancaster and lived (for a while anyway)

They're tough, but not too dangerous.

I got some pics somewhere with chunks missing out of Lancasters (ones hit by 20mm, 30mm, Flak etc).  Indeed they were tough planes....

I dont know. Hblair got me lastnight, took about 3 or 4 good passes in his 109, I heard many many pings, and a P38 had already crippled me somewhat. Seems tough enough to me.

Yup he got me all right but it sounded like about 100 pings to me.
I wonder if someone else was shooting at the same time?

I was in the bomb sight at the time so I didn't know who was around.

Like the B-17, the Lancaster had a reputation for bringing its crew home with heavy damage.  The Lanc should be about as tough as the B-17, but without the defensive firepower.

For defensive power, I really like the B26. But it sure isn't as tough as the Lanc

The firepower of the B-17 is incredible.  The b-26 forte is its maneuverability combined with firepower.
