Have no problems with Canada!

The bottom side of the US is another story.

Heheh Badge, I like you more and more.
I've no qualms with Canadian citizens.  I just can't stand their putrid leader!

BTW were those medals ever awarded?

It's called service above and beyond the call of duty.  You know, stuff like extreme bravery, exemplary courage!  And I don't care if you are Canadian, German, French, or Martian.  If you perform bravely, above and beyond the call of duty, you are entitled to have that act of heroism recognized, even if only as a symbol of gratititude, from the citizens of one nation to a citizen of another another nation that was also willing to send it's son's and daughters into harm's way for the greater good!

Remember, I'm not Canada bashing and you shouldn't make light of bravery under fire!  I've never had to do that and I have the greatest respect for those that have.

It's an essential part of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

Understanding the concept produces leaders.... failing to understand it produces bureaucrats. ;)

Slo, I'll type slowly. Decorations are part of the military, they are awarded for various reasons including a job well done.
Here we put salt on Margaritas, not sidewalks.
